It depends on the branch. Most times no, but some branches don't care, especially in a smaller town. By the way, does your EECU have a coin machine? I have EECU out here and am just wondering.

Bummer. One of the coin techs that showed up at my Credit Union said that one of the EECU in my town has one, but I haven't been able to look for it yet.

  5. i went into a local credit union 4 or 5 times and asked for drawer rolls or if there were any CWR's turned in this week. when i asked if they would order me a couple boxes of pennies they said i needed an account, 20 mins later and 5 bucks into a new savings account, i have 3 boxes of pennies that will be ready for pickup Monday afternoon. Needless to say ill be sowing up with some doughnuts for them for beings so friendly!

  7. That your buying the silver, Coin hunting you go into a bank, get the rolls of coins at face value, search them, hope you get some, keep what you want, and turn the others back in. You only lose what you keep out of your initial investment. Buying bullion your paying the silver price.

Wouldn't the bank just give you regular modern year quarters? Or do they not really check and just give you whatever comes into their doors?

  9. that's why its coin roll hunting, you go get the coins from the bank and look em over. see if you got any silver coins then turn them in. but no the bank dosn't just hand out all current year coins.

I'm new to coins. I'm using the official red book to find values. Example: 1982D half dollar list MS-63 for $7.00. I have several from searching coin rolls. I don't understand how to tell if mine are MS -63?

You need to learn how to grade..........it don't happen overnight, and it takes some time and experience to determine grades........accurately. I've been a collector for over 50 years and I still get it wrong at times (most :))..........watch and learn grasshopper..........check out the 'guess the grade' threads on this forum and begin your learning process. Pick up a copy of this......

    https://www.amazon.com/Official-Standards-American-Numismatic-Association/dp/0794838243

........and begin your learning process by picking stuff out of the pocket change and comparing.

And welcome to the forum, dear Lady. :)

Red Book and a starter Hastings Loupe enroute.
I know how to grade tires and most mechanical parts (New/Renewed/Crud) however Coins are a radically different arena.
    No more coin-star deposits.

What about new release coins? last 2-3 years say. How long does it take for a trend to emerge? I know people are looking, but how long does it take for it to become something to look for? How long after production did it take for the community to learn that a 1943 copper is out there as opposed to today? as for currency production, when does the mintage count become available for a strike?

Destruction of currency is a federal offense and I don't even understand the definition of melt value. LOL
