I'm not sure if it is a high-end AU but it is definitely a nice coin. It has a full LIBERTY and nice luster remaining in the eagle's feathers. Very nice coin.

Dipped long ago and since retoned, I'd grade the coin somewhere around AU 50 to 55, depending on the amount of luster left. My only concern is that it was overdipped and robbed of some luster, but that could just be the photo (is it a scan?). Regardless, that's a great deal of detail, and it looks to be a very, very nice coin.

Tell me, how does it cartwheel?

It's the photo I can assure you. Very lustrous overall and can't comment on the cartwheel as it's buried back in the safe. Something I'd really want to look at to honestly answer your question.

The whole story is this. I bought the coin from a guy I've been buying from for years (you know a guy that I trust). Told him the coin HAD to be legit as I WILL slab it someday. I've had a very good relationship with this dealer he gives me extenended layaway plus return privileges.

Said he could have dipped it and passed it off higher and I'm sure he could have.

    Anyway,
Showed it to my favorite local dealer and he just loves it. Original in his opinion and well struck. He has no reason to "lie" to me as I didn't buy it from him and we've been friends for over 15 years now.

I need to get a good camera (been saying that for a while). These pics were from a scanner.

Hey nice coin Clembo. Ive never owned a 20 cent piece. Not even a beat up ugly one. I like the detail

IMO, The rev shows too much wear on the high points of the wings and breast which would keep it from getting a high AU grade.

Nice coin, and I especially like that it ISN't the S mint coin from that year.

I also never had a 20 cent either. Supposedly not too many people collect them. Not too long a run.
Most collectors just get one for a type set, like the 1875-S. The 1876 had a mintage of just 15,900 but was probably saved more often than other dates.

The 1875CC is really going to be tough as I am completing the "set" as it were. A four coin set on my budget.
1875, 75-S, 75-CC and 76. Just need the CC now but it will be lower grade. Higher grade, say past VF is out of my budget.

Still, bet I'll be the only kid on the block with the "set".

It looks like a nice coin to me and my grade guess would be AU53.

excellent double dime...i especially fancy the reverse

edit to add...a lot of the examples i see from this series seem to display a weak strike except for the '76

this appears to me to be au plus/minus.

Obviously dipped twice in 1965 and once in 1973. Subtlety tooled and then amateurly conserved in 1987 by a left handed individual. The coin also appears to have been semi-professionally retoned by disgruntled employees at Numismatic Conservation Services in 2002, after the shake-up. Overall a high end XF-45... ;);););)
