This was the year of transition, so if an 1983 coin was zinc, wouldn't that be the wrong planchet? Not sure, new to this but a little research told me that.

    The transition happened in 1982.

1983 should all be zinc. Put it in with my other clippers and just getting back to them

I'm still searching for a 1983 made of copper, lol. Since I have the 1982 made of zinc.

    No

1982 had Copper Cents in the beginning then changed to Copper Plated Zinc mid 1982.
1983 and foward are all Copper Plated Zinc.

You are new. If you are not sure then be careful with your comments.

So 1982 pennies can be zinc plated, without it being a transitional error? Thought I had something, lol!

I was OP on this thread but it kinda went off the rails. I thought it’s a legit clip. Found it CRH

This thread went immediately to the zinc/copper argument and
no one has addressed the original question regarding the clip.
    The clip? I like it.

A 1983 copper plated zinc cent with a clipped planchet should be Plated over the clip, as the blanks are punched before plating. Does it show any signs of Blakesley Effect?

That is cool. I do not know how the zinc cent works out with the B/E.
I have noticed some smaller clips do not make a noticeable B/E.
I do not have any pre- 82' clipped cents. Now I know they are out there.
    Thanks for post & reply.
