Hello. I recently won an auction on eBay for a 1951 D off center penny. When I decided to do a search online for the value of this coin I encounter information that the 1951 D off center can be counterfeited comparing the photos to my coin with the counterfeit. I notice that mine does look like a counterfeit but I am unsure since the color is not the same but does have bubbles on the planchet of the coin. I am posting the counterfeit coin (darker coin image) mention on the internet and my coin reverse and observe won on eBay. Thank you.

    I’m confused
You did research *after* you bought something on value and authenticity?

You may want to post links to all the auction, research, etc for review. Otherwise it’s just speculation.

Clear photos of BOTH sides of the coin would help but from what i can see-
The shape of Lincolns nostril was the very 1st thing that jumped out as being odd.

    Shrews1994 Collecting is my passion.

When you buy online. Should always look at the description. It would say either replica for you collection or authentic. Most of them are replicas. I would never buy anything like this online because they will rip you off and if it did say authentic you never know till you get it in your hands.

Your Lincoln does not match an actual Lincoln.

Greetings! Thank you for your reply. Regarding your sarcasm is very unnecessary and I did not sign up for comedy central. Comparison photos, real one on top. The hair, the mouth, the eyes, the nose, the chin are all different.

Hello. Yes I did I won it at a bid. I wasn't aware at the time that the coin was counterfeit until I decided to search for the value of the coin online.

Thank you for your reply. I usually very good at spotting replicas but this specific coin was tricky what gave it away was the bubbles on the planchet the surface is not smooth for that reason it raises a red flag and needed a second opinion. Thank you again.

@alice Z Sarcasm is sometimes the way it is with coin collectors, this is not meant for you to take personal. And sarcasm is definitely needed for 95% of the new member posts. Welcome to CT.
It is definitely the best practice to research the coin and series before you make a purchase. This will help you to buy authentic Mint struck coins. There are quite a few, OK a lot of fakes running around on EBAY, you will just need the experience to determine which is which. Good luck and hope to see more of your posts.

Thank you. I have met some coin collectors usually they are not the sarcastic type they get right to the point since they want to make $$$ and not lose a customer. LOL. or have you come back. I appreciate your feedback. I made my first mistake since 5 years of coin collecting. I will return the coin and will try to keep buying slab one this time. Best wishes and thank you again. :)

Just remember that there is a big difference between a collector,(will tell you stuff you may not want to hear) and a dealer ( will tell you what you want to hear) to get the sale. Not all dealers are collectors, and some of them don't have much of a clue about Numismatics.
