So, I am a new coin collector and got these super old gold sovereigns. I did not buy these coins, I inherited these coins. I don't know the value and would like some input. Victoria Young Head: 1872 Victoria Veiled Head:1891 Victoria Jubilee:1900 George V: 1927 Edward VII: 1908 Elizabeth: 1964
I believe all are fairly common and wouldn't be worth much more than melt. Currently melt for a sovereign is about $292.00. Great set btw. I love sovereigns and would love to have something like yours in my collection.

I can't really tell from the photos - better ones are needed. The George V looks suspect. The rest appear to be common and condition varies. Dealers may offer 5% below melt. You may do a little better on EBay, but you will need better photographs.
Why do you say the GV looks suspect? It looks fine to me based on the pictures provided. I am pretty sure I see a SA mint mark on the reverse. There were over 16 million sovereigns minted in South Africa that year. Not rare.
The date and mint mark looked off to me, but it could be the photos. SAs as you said are very common. Except for the 1923/24 of course.
Hi. I also have a similar enquiry about british commemorative coins while I was searching online in amazon I found a cool coin princess diana commemorative. I made a further search which finally took me to a website called Bradford Exchange. They offer classy collections from coins to watches etc. My question is is it really worth it to buy a commemorative coin 2018 or 2017 limited mint some are around 4999 mint only. Some are less. Some are more. The price varies from £10 to more than 100. I have no experience in this. And i want your kind opinion. Here is an example
I really cannot comment on the fractional sovereigns other than there are far fewer collectors of them compared to full sovereigns. The Royal Mint has been producing many limited special issue coins of late. Some are definitely worth it, many others I suspect are not. The Sapphire Jubilee sovereign sold out quickly and went up in price. I haven't looked at the sapphire jubilee quarter sovereign - but imagine that the sales were no where near as brisk. Also - I do not like buying limited issue coins from anyone other than the mint.
