I don't have much eperience in coin collecting, I'm pretty much just getting started and I've come across a 989 penny with an error I don't recognize. There seems to be alot going on with this penny, the more I look at it under a magnifier the more I find so I'm hoping someone here is familiar with this error.
Hey, welcome to CT. Be careful about over thinking something, remember the old saying of not being able to see the forest for all the trees . I don't really see anything outstandingly wrong or different with the coin. When posting it always helps to tell what you think it might be or to point out the area of the coin that you are asking about. BTW, I'm starting to hate Zincolns.
I'll try to post a better picture but the site won't let me pull a pic from my magnifier so I used my camera. Focus on we trust above his head it's all scrambled and with my magnifier I can easily see different numbers and letter on his coat and and what looks like writing under the date
You don't need better images. Your cent is just a normal coin. Nothing special about it. Welcome to CT.
A lot of new collectors who know nothing about Copper Plated Zinc Cents sometimes see "letters and numbers" on their coins.. It's just a plating issues combined with circulation wear. Their is no reason for the US Mint to put, hide or use any other hidden images on the Cents.
And don't forget to research errors and such. And learn about the minting process and how damage can occur afterwards (which is UN-limited). "I've come across a (1)989 penny with an error I don't recognize" Have you purchased books on Coin Errors and saw something specific in a book to Your coin? Can you reference that ?
I see what you are talking about in the word TRUST but it is due to post mint damage (PMD) not an error from the mint. It is a circulated 1989 cent with some damage and corrosion.
Thank you mountain man that's exactly what I was looking for, someone to explain to me what I was seeing
