So I unloaded my change from doing some last minute New Years tasks (Gotta get the New Years Sashimi), and I glanced at the change in the bowl and saw the two "Atheist Cents" at the bottom. So I quickly went thru the change, and fished out the other 6. So which would be keepers and which should be sent to the Coinstar machine?
Sorry, but I only see 2 coins I would call Atheist cents. Both 1980 cuds. Top right appears to be a slightly greased filled date. To the left of it, I can't tell from the pic if its a post-mint damaged coin or a defective planchet. the next two seem to be ever so slightly MAD. Bottom row 2 cuds (keepers, by all means) in a row. A ?1971? minor grease fill. a 2003D minor grease fill and slightly MAD. Of the eight, the ones I, personally, would keep are the two cuds, the possibly defective planchet (to study and determine post/defect), and the 1976D slightly MAD. I doubt its MAD enough to draw a premium but I would keep it anyway. (may just be me.) The rest I would throw in my copper/zinc piles according to its type. Could just be me, though. If I've missed something you've noticed, by all means point it out.
Um: Should've been abit more specific to the pic.... Anyway, the planchet defect....could it be a lamination Error?
Sorry, been "celebrating" tonight. Exactly what I was thinking. It should be noted, however, that I am certainly no expert in the field of error coins. But yeah, exactly what I was thinking. That's why I would keep that one. If it is, then I would have an example of that type of error to consult. If It ain't, then I would have an example of something that fooled me into believing I had an example of that type of error. Either way, I have an example to learn from. Cheers.
Those 2 with cuds look like they are from the same broken die. What are the chances of finding 2 of those in your pocket at once. I'm no expert on mint issues; does anyone have an idea how many different dies the mint uses in a year? I imagine it's quite a few.
pretty cool that you got all those in chnage especially at the same time! p.s. don't use coinstar roll up your coins and take them to the bank.
Cool finds, especially the two cuds. Like laskandino mentioned, they appear to be from the same broken die.
