Fake Greek coins?

I found this person on ebay selling Ancient Greek coins, and I don't know, they look fake to me? I am a beginner so maybe I am totally wrong, but for example this tetradrachm looks like a cast to me? He sells quite a few coins, this is his ebay link.

I hope I can learn some knowledge about detecting fake coins.

The coins are real, it's the Greeks that are fake.

 

he is a fake seller...he sells some genuine, some fake...mostly fake though; so it is best not to to buy from him at all.

The question asked was if the coin pictured is authentic or fake. I am far from being able to REALLY detect ancient fakes, but I would guess it is a fake. To me it has a "cast" look in that the worn parts (where the crest intersects the rim and other places) was cast to make them look worn. See what else...

 

Here are a couple tets of Kassander that were minted at Uranopolis to campare to the OP coin. They were sold in a recent CNG eAuction.

Most importantly, and as others have said, the seller is a known purveyor of fake coins. There is no way in he'll I would buy a coin from him, even if I was 99% certain it was authentic. There are many reputable dealers out there that would be more than happy to do business with you. Avoid eBay like the plague until you have built up a fairly good base of familiarity with the coins you are interested in collecting.

 

@Pavlos , look at his "other items." Most, if not all, of them are fake too.

Unfortunately, eBay does nothing about fake sellers even if reported many times.

 

I really don't understand why some coins bring up already above the 100 dollars. Either some coins are authentic or people just don't know what they are buying. Either way a untrustable seller like that is a big no to me anyway. Thanks guys.

His discussion forum is bottom of the barrel though, Alot of know-it-all primadonnas. Constant fighting.I am so glad I left. This board seems nicer( so far)

No its that CFDL yahoo group... its had a pretty bad reputation for being full of jerks, very clique-y there. I dont know if it still is like that hough they were talking about closing the group,but at least the fake ebay seller list is useful, so theres that at least.

I don't know of a legitimate silver Greek coin that starts out the bidding at $1.16.

 

Actually, there are many good coins on eBay that start at 1 euro ($1.17 today) in Europe where some sellers believe in real auctions. There are many potential buyers who know what coins are worth, so valuable coins always climb to about the right price.
