I STILL haven't seen a "P" penny from circulation

The pennies with the P mint mark came out in 2017, and here it is in July 2018 and I still have never seen one. I know I could get one on eBay, but I'm surprised I haven't seen one in change yet. I'm near Chicago. I've had plenty of 2017 Ds come through my change, but never a P.

Oh, and did they do the P for 2018 or just that one year?

Just 2017, 200th anniversary of the Mint. I have lots of P's but no 2018 anything in PA. I think Chicago gets its coin from the Denver Mint.

Just the one year, i believe. I could send you a few if you'd like, just PM me your address.

I used to live in Denver. Never saw the mint. Wait. What? NOT Denver, Pennsylvania? Never mind.

I have gotten about 10-15 2017-P in circulation, and a similar number of 2018 plain. I've SEEN cash drawer segments FULL of shiny new ones.

Same here. Maybe it matters where you live.

Send me all the cents you like. I'll be happy to P on them. I can even take them to Philly first, but the competition to P everywhere there gets overwhelming.

  9. Plenty around here. I saved enough for a roll. I don't see nearly as many D coins as P's around here. About 8-1 ratio I would guess.

So somewhere between Cincy and Chicago on the Amtrak Cardinal, they dump all the Philly coins trackside and take delivery of Denver ones. Hmm.

  11. Maybe so.
As an aside, when I have been in Vegas almost all coins are D.

Go to San Francisco and you can see people P-ing on the street everywhere. Probably easier to get the job done there for folks living in the west.

Wow. Would those be proof P coins?

This is another good example of why the cent coin should be eliminated. They don't circulate beyond where they are released. Does anyone know how far west the new Philadelphia mint coins are released? When I grew up in the Chicago area in the 60's and 70's all of the new bank rolls were from the Denver mint. Most cents I got in change had D mint marks. However, there was still a decent number from the Philadelphia mint. Since I've retired to northern Wisconsin I can't recall the last time I found anything other than a D mint coin in change. Since most of my purchases these days are with plastic I don't get much change anymore.

    It's by Federal Reserve districts.

Federal Reserve Districts 1 through 6 are typically served by Philadelphia new coins. Districts 7 through 12 are typically served from Denver.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't really want to put anyone out. I'll probably end up getting the P and S on eBay eventually to fill my collection. Just more an observation how these don't seem to be circulating.

I always seem to eventually find both mintmarks (or lack thereof) through circulation after a few years go by. I have Whitman folders that I've filled with circulation that are full with the exception of maybe a few dates in the past few years. As someone else stated, I do use credit cards more today but I still use cash sometimes and get change.

I predict that 2017-P and 2018 plain cents will be all over the place at the ANA show, in circulation. It'd be so cool if the Mint set up a change making machine that gave them in change for other coins, but they'll probably just do quarters and dollars, like they usually do.

I live in the southern part of Oregon. I too have yet to see a 2017-P cent in circulation. I have one in my 2017 mint set. In fact finding any circulating coins from Philadelphia is not common around here. I do not "coin roll hunt", but I do get my fair share of change. P Mint marks are not that plentiful in my part of the west coast.
