How would you grade this Morgan?

    John Skelton Morgan man!

    I recently bought this coin and decided to see if any of the grading guides I have or are online agree with the CH BU grade. None of them show this grade designation, so I thought I would bring it before the friendly neighborhood experts here to see what they have to say!

    Nice die crack through 'States Of' (reverse).....I'd put it at '64 with a shot at '65.

    Few marks, clean cheek. Agree with MS-64.

    Well used die. Another crack on the reverse through DOL.

    Nice looking and only a few bag marks. Nice die cracks on the reverse. Well worn does will keep this at a 64.

    I just knew I liked what I saw when I saw it. Not only did the coin shine but the price was affordable. I had planned on getting two coins but the dealer didn't have any of the ones I wanted to fill holes. Even so, he gave me $5 off the price he had on it.

    Now what's the deal with the grade? If you noticed, it was graded choice BU and I can't find that grade even listed very many places. But I am encouraged by the estimates all of you gave.

    Okay, I need to ask how you tell a die crack from a bag mark. I have heard others here talk about them but I guess I didn't pay much attention. Where, exactly, on the DOL do you see the evidence?

    Though the terminology has changed through the years, I believe Choice BU
    generally means MS63 range today.

    Choice = 63
    Very Choice = 64
    Gem = 65

    I'm at 63 on the OP's coin.

    Excellent way to show this. Because I my serious numismatic learning was done in a previous generation, the Choice and Gem BU designations are somewhat more meaningful to me.

    I grade the coin 'a keeper.' Put in a nice capsule to keep it looking so nice!

    This is a good example of die cracks. Note the lines running thru the date. Click on the images for a better look.

    Okay, so it looks to me like die cracks are usually raised on the coin?

    "Choice" became MS-63; "Gem" was MS-65.
