I was taking a look at this last night and spotted something odd with the T's in Trust. After taking a look again today and shooting some close-ups I am even more convinced this may be a DDO. In fact it looks like it could be 1963P-1DO-013 on Copper coins.

Here is about the best I could do with what I got for photos.

For this DDO take a look at the crossbars of both Ts in Trust.

And a close up of both the date and Liberty. IMG_0005.JPG IMG_0006.JPG

No matter what direction I turn the coin I can't see a bar under the L in Liberty or an extra eyelid on Lincolns eye. This is what is leading me to think it is 1DO-013.

So what do ya think? Did I finally find one on a Lincoln cent? I have never spotted one before so I am not 100% sure that is what this is.

    Thanks...Mont.

Hard to say. The T's you have look different and I can't see the key die scratches. Could be, might not be. That said, I'm still not getting the appeal of these minimal doublings.

It's not the fact that it is minimal. It's the fact I have never found a DDO/DDR of any kind on an LMC before. My eyes just aren't good enough to see em. I wish the first one I found was a major one. But alas this is what it turned out to be.

I was thinking this could be an EDS state without the die scratches. Thinking the MDS state, as pictured on copper coins, is where the worst of the die scratches started. Am I mistaken in thinking this could be a possibility?

This was another question I had about it. Thanks for bringing it up.

Well, on circulation coin dies, scrubbing them with a wire brush when installing them was kind of normal, and that's where die marker die scratches come from.

I did not know that. Thank you! I learned something new today.

This does have some faint die scratches on it. I will try to get shots of those, but I warn you my set up may not be capable of showing them very well. Especially on circulated coins like this.

There are several DDOs for this year that involve the crossbars on the Ts but most of them involve the eye lid or the L in liberty. The 1DO-013 is the only one, on any of the DDO/DDR listing sites I know of, I saw with both T's that looked similar to this.

Heck for all I know this could be some form of DDD or MD I've never heard of.:)

Now you know why I'm shopping for a good microscope.

Here are the Die Scratches that present to most on this coin.

1st set is just below the 9 in the date. These can also be seen in my photo above. Die scratch1.jpg

These next ones are harder to see as this part of the coin is a little darker in color.
Look just above to the left of Lincolns shoulder. You can see some faint lines. These are more die scratches. Die scratch2.JPG

That's about it for the note worthy die scratches on this coin. They do not match the 1DO-013 though. Possibly a new listing?

I'm no expert on the "wizarding world of minor varieties" but I'd be disinclined to use that explanation. To me, a significant number of the ones that DO appear on various websites with fancy numbers DON'T exist.

I know what you mean. Most of the time when I look at the DDO/DDR descriptions and photos I can't see what they are talking about. A spread here, a notch there. I just look and think to myself "If you say so I sure as heck can't see it".

I wish people would put arrows on their photos pointing to what they are talking about on these most of the time. Instead of just writing a description and posting plain photos. Either that or figure out how to get the light to hit it so the notching or spreading is more visible in the photos.
