I'll add: I won a coin at his auction a few months ago. 2 days later it arrived in the mail, I hadn't even paid him yet!! Try finding that level of trust on eBay!!

The FSR sale discussed here closed and the results have been posted. I only got two things from the going cheap list but all the lots I led on Sunday went to much higher bids. I do wonder how much of this is from the new platform. I will be interested in seeing if any of these coins show up here. There was a large Ptolemy and a Probus from that newly recognized mint that have been discussed here more than once so I might expect CT bids.

I have one bid, but I haven't received the results. Can you provide the link for the latest auction results please?

The Probus went to me... an upgrade from my spontaneous purchase when you posted about these a while ago. I believe the Ptolemy was on the light side, under 80g.

I bid on 4 items and didn't win any - not a surprise as I didn't bid much. I wasn't a fan of the new set up so wasn't engaged at all after initial bids.
The hybrid idea of having the auction on Emax.Bid as well as the option of emailing in bids was the worst of both worlds in my opinion. If you go online and can't see the current high bid .. what is the point?
No harm in trying something new I guess but it didn't work for me.

Yes, that's a big drawback. Presumably Frank got a few extra bidders, though.

Personally I think biddr is the best... that's the one I'll be using. (I've finally grown tired of there being no Canadian auction venue for ancient & medieval!)

I didn't bid on anything this time around. I still have a couple of coins arriving in the mail that I haven't received yet. I was tempted to bid on the large Ptolemy and the Maxentius follis, but didn't pull the trigger.

When I saw that Probus made the cheap list, I bid the minimum figuring I would give my 'good enough for me' coin to someone who would understand it. I was relieved when the AE48 went over my cheap bid after I asked what it weighed. We have two here on CT heavier than my 89.9g. I bid assuming that an AE48 would be heavier that my AE46. Assuming is not good.

I also wonder if anyone here got lot 119. It no bids until it hit the cheap list and, after several bids, ended up bringing less than half of the 1992 sale. I never will understand what makes a coin sell high one time and low another. Trying to make sense out of what people do is often a mistake. In some cases there is something about a coin only a specialist would see but in some cases it is just wild bidding.

Sorry I took the Probus out from under you, @dougsmit. :( Lucky escape for you on the octobol!

I really wanted 370, the Maximinus II Hercules (for my Farnese Hercules subcollection), but wasn't prepared to go the distance.

Yes indeed! :shame: First auction will be in November. I don't want to run afoul of the "no self promotion" rule on CT, but anyone who is interested in consigning can PM me. (Part of the point is to give Ancient Forum regulars a good venue for selling... special consignment deals for y'all. :D)

Wow, that one really flew over my head the first time. Thanks to @TIF to pointing that one out. I’ll definitely look at the auction when it begins.

It looks like I had the high bid on the one coin I was most interested in. However, I have not been notified by FSR that I won the lot. Is this usual?

In my experience he doesn't notify you if you win.

I buy ONLY five cents stamps. Three of them PLUS a postcard stamp makes first class. My last purchase allowed me to make up 200+ first class envelops. That will last me a year. The only five cent stamp that I know brings a premium is the Kennedy so I skim them out of any purchase. The whiz kids in the post office destroyed a system where 4% of most stamps were never used and saved as corner blocks and IMPROVED it by forcing collectors to save 20 stamps for each corner block. Only the post office was surprised when all plate block collectors stopped collecting and those previously unused stamps entered the market in such lasrge quantities that they are now avaiklable at a discount with the biggest discounts going to the stamps with the lowest face value.

You win he ships. When it arrives you pay the bid amount plus the shipping from the envelope. By deleting the back and forth notifications and other minutiae he gets the lots out to his customers quicker than anyone else. Most people appreciate that.
