    Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie to coins and just found this in my Grandfather's old coin collection I was given. Was told it might be worth something so I thought I see if anyone out there knows something about this coin and if it has any value. I'd really appreciate any words of wisdom y'all can share!

    Thanks! Rooskie 1874 Fifty Centavos 1.jpg 1874 Fifty Centavos 2.jpg 1874 Fifty Centavos 3.jpg

I like it. It’s not rare or super valuable but it is a nice old piece of silver. Probably $20 or so

It is quite rare but it's damaged. Three digit coin anyway.

That’s for the overdates which can’t be determined from the photos. I’m not sure why they don’t have a listed mintage for the year and mintmark. It wouldn’t get much more than the $20 I stated unless it was a better grade and a specialized collector really wanted it.

That said, it’s still a cool memento from a grandfather.

I dont see a Krause listing for this Date/Mint that is not an overdate.
    What am I missing here?

Well, thats what I was thinking, its like a Key Date sort of thing then.
NGC online does not show the 100+ variations in there listing.
    KM# 407.6 right?

My guess is this is a 1874/3 Mo M variety. The others listed are either Mo B
or Mo B/M. I don't see a B on this coin, only the M. At a value of $200 in F, the coin above would still have value with the rim dings. Nice coin, a keeper especially since it was handed down from your grandfather.

Hey, thanks so much for your info! I had a friend take a look and his opinion is spot on with you, but thinks (even with the rim dings) because of the scarcity, it might fetch a higher price. He couldn't find ANY for sale online. I like that you noticed the Mo M on the reverse. The details....... I've got a lot of learning to do. Thanks again (Cited from: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/granddads-1874-fifty-centavos.319629/)
