Yeah, I wouldn't hold up a checkout line paying with a hundred dollars worth of change, but I can certainly spend a dollar or so in change each time through. I go to the store pretty frequently, so I can work through a backlog fairly quickly.

Yeah, you're still $162 in the black -- but you could've had another $22 in free money! Would you have left 90 quarters in the bottom of a hole?

 

What you stated makes sense.. But I'm not done detecting! I can find a lot more in time.

 

where do you all like to metal hunt? also is there a good basic metal detector that wont break my bank but could last me a couple years? Have always wanted to start but have never pulled the trigger. Also if it takes you an Hr. to roll a bunch of coins, then that's a 20 dollar an hr paycheck you just paid your self and not the coinstar! haha happy hunting all!

 

Most people detect where they live. You need a yearly permit. I live in NYC so I detect NYC beaches and parks where permitted only. I have done really good during the summer when more people spend time in these areas and they lose items!

thanks for the info, i would have had no idea about needing a permit to metal detect, I'm currently living in Up state NY so lots of lake beaches getting use at this time!

 

Depends on where you live. Not every city or state requires a permit.

 

We have a metal dectorist club in my area. I watch these guys videos month after month. Not one person ever finds anything better than a cheap Sterling ring or a wheat penny. Yet you come on here to the internet and guys post pictures looking like they unearthed the Staffordshire hoard or something.

I guess we'll just have to take their word for it...

Hmm. Here in Germany, Coinstar charges 9.9%. Yes, quite a lot, so if (!) one has the option to take it to a bank where you have an account, chances are there will be no (or a lower) fee ...

I’ve taken coins to the coin stars at times. I’ve had banks turn down my coins because they were off color. So instead of hours of tumbling coins, the cents get a washing then through a coinstar. Nickels and dimes also if I don’t run them through the self check out at wallyworld. The quarters get swapped out for when we get quarters for the laundry, I use the stained ones in the machines and the shiny ones go in my stash. The fee I pay is a lot better than my time tumbling. Whatever works for each person
