I came across this in a friends change saved it right before he spent it at a cafe. Should I clean it up?
I understand the concept of "never cleaning your coins".. but I don't totally agree. Let's take the OP's Nickel.. Why should they not clean it? It's has some gunk on it. It is well circulated. I don't think it's in any condition not to clean it. Just my opinion
Well the reason I don't clean them myself is I damage a bunch of coins by not learning how to clean them properly. And most new people myself included don't take the time to learn it the right way now with that being said I problay no enough now to do it. But I'm a dummy and still problay mess them up but your right some coins wouldn't make any difference anyhow. Dave
I agree. Sometimes a cleaning is needed for a coin and unless you know what you are doing you can damage your coins. I admit I was lazy with the response and I apologize for that, but for the OP as a general rule you should not clean a coin. However there are exceptions.
I have a similar point of view. OP aint gonna make the coin any less valuable by cleaning it. And the benefit is to not have the gunk stick to anything else for all eternity.
