    So, is there an easy way to tell the difference between the large and small date? They look so much alike.

    Stayed up late reading and looking. Now I found a bunch of other coins for which I should be looking. So, I'll be going through my stash looking for them instead of the 1982 D. I'll open new threads if I find anything promising. Thanks.

    Thread is almost 5 months old...top/redder coin is small date...brown is large.

    For me the date is skinny looking on the small and a blockier 4 on the large. You can also study the aperture of the 4 numeral, the angle of the highest part of the "window"...Spark
