Aren't all the 1964's all silver? Yes they are.
But as I said they continued minting 1964 silver quarters in 1965 and 1966 as well as clad 1965 and clad 1966. So it is possible to have a 1964 off metal struck on a clad planchet by mistake. Which would be a VERY valuable error.
Silver weighs 6.25 grams and clad 5.67 grams.
If the edge of your 1964-D is white, it's silver.
1965 quarters have been found to be minted on silver planchets.
Normally the reverse would not be true, except they were making BOTH
    silver 1964's and clad 1965's (and 1966's) during 1965 and 1966.
If the edge of your quarter shows a copper line and a white line, it's clad.
Just look at the edge of any modern quarter, and the edge of your 1964.

I thought it was a Type B too.
Then I started staring too long.
and longer, and longer until none of it made sense. LOL

The tail feather information was very helpful. I am going to look at my 64-D's again.
I don't believe I have any C reverses, but I want to make sure.
