First opened this thread a few minutes ago. After reading only a few posts I wondered how in the heck it was 7 pages (and maybe still had legs).

Very enjoyable way to start the 4th. Kids, dogs and cats, memes, photos and videos that I can show my 9 year old grandson this afternoon.

    Thanks, CTers!

I was being nice. See how I used words that didn’t insult you? I personally admire your knowledge and contributions to this hobby, but being a jerk to newcomers is not the best method to build our base.

That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. I disagree, but you’re welcome to argue with me and prove me wrong :p

    Let's be realistic here.
NO ONE likes to see posts of a Lincoln cent coin that been sitting in a parking lot being run over--then a cherry asks if it's rare or valuable.

KUDOS to those members who have given a gracious answer and welcomed the cherry into the discussion :)

I haven't heard anyone use 'cherry' in that sense in many many years.

I think you gave the "cherry" a "strawberry". Thick skin and a good sense of humor is required here.

By the time this OP was two posts in, he was already getting moderator warnings. His first was looking to turn a quick buck. He was treated appropriately.

I don’t understand, why should everyone have to have thick skin just to gain numismatic knowledge? Are we incapable of imparting wisdom without insulting and demeaning? Frankly, I think this is the wrong mindset for a forum where we have opportunities to influence so many newcomers. How many people do we turn away from the hobby, simply because of our inability to convey wisdom without belittling someone?

His handle comes out as “poker player”. He came in screaming on a naked bluff, got called, and lost his stack. No remorse. Even my cat knows his type:

I never said "everyone", and yes those who want to become a new member of the site could feel insulted by comments that could be construed as an insult.

In most cases I'd agree with that, but manners are a two-way street. You don't go to a new friend's house for the first time and start criticizing what they serve for dinner. This guy gave a textbook demonstration of how NOT to be a new forum member.
