@Stanly Cohen I try to give every new member the benefit of a doubt unless proven otherwise. In this case, I want to make you aware that your post is going to draw a lot of harsh comments from CT members for the following reasons: 1) the mint did not put a “special stamp” on 1975 cents, 2) Numerous companies punched everything into novelty cents from Lincoln smoking a cigar, to JFK, to the outlines of the states, and 3) The “whole world isn’t looking for these aftermarket, counter stamped cent.

So, if you truly are a new collector who wants to share a special coin that has significant sentimental and family meaning, please do so. But you may want to refrain from “wait for my surprise tomorrow” type of post. It will not endear you to the Coin Talk Community. Just start a new post with your coin, along with the story about getting it from your grandfather.

However, if you keep up with “the world is looking for this coin” and “I’ll post it later” stuff, many on here will just lump you in with the numerous internet trolls who plague this site and just like to stir up trouble. I hope you are the former and not the latter.

I would guess it is a cent counterstamped with the outline of a state with somewhat of an appearance of NGC labeling. Counterstamps of any kind are commonly worthless on modern coinage. Jim

What makes that more intrinsically valuable than the cent I have with Kennedy's face stamped on it? Not sure I am following this.

Look at image in post #4, the damaged 1 looks 'somewhat ' like the scale on NGC , and it is not a D, but speculation on my part until we might get a photo. Jim
