Recently I was reading an article on Mughal Emperor, Akbar, and after reading it, decided to acquire a coin of his. I honestly don't know much regarding these. I do know this particular example is overcleaned, but I am OK with that. Also, it's a bit lighter than usual, lightest I found is 11.02g. I didn't find any matching fakes and old searches on here didn't help much. No files marks or seams on the edges. If anyone knows much about these, I am all ears...I mean eyes! Jalal al-Din Muhammad Akbar (963-1014 AH / 1556 - 1605 A.D.) AR Rupee INDIA, Mughal Empire 10.96g
Man, I need to gets some Mughal coins. This is the only thing I have remotely close... Muwahid Caliphate, Islamic Iberia and North Africa, AR Dirham, AH 524- 640 (AD 1156- 1272) 15 mm 1.7g And it isn't remotely close is it? About as close as a 2018 United States quarter and Henry VIII coin! Same shape and language! LOL!
Looks genuine to me, just overcleaned. Akbar was perhaps the most important Mughal emperor... definitely a must-have for the generalist! Here are my Mughals - no nice square ones like yours. The Akbar dam is very thick and hefty, with an easy-to-read date (٩٨٧ = 987 AH = 1579-80, the year in which Akbar abolished the jizya, invited Jesuits to the court, and issued a mazhar declaring himself Caliph.)
