    Hi all,
3 nights ago I was doing some Striped Bass fishing with some of my best friends. Steve who is an avid Comic Book collector and dealer gifted me with 4 US coins he picked up on his recent trip to Florida. I was surprised with the coins and told him I was going to create a thread here on CT.

Has any of your non-coin collecting friends ever gift you with coins?

Many times, and I always try to reward them later with a nice Silver coin as a "thank you".

Had you not clarified we never would have known! ;)

Very nice that your friends think of you, Paddy; it's a sign of a true one regardless of if the gift is large or small. Congrats!

A fellow that gifts you coins and takes you striper fishing? That is a fine freind indeed!!

Only have one gifted coin that comes to mind. Went home last year and my brothers wife had found a box of coins and whatnots in her families things. They asked me to go through the coins for them. Mostly mildly interesting common stuff... but there was a small ancient in that box. I know nothing of ancients but the kid in me came out holding a 2000 year old coin. The guys in the ancients forum told me it was a Fel Temp Repartio. Nothing rare or spectacular, but way cool to me...... Anyway I flew home and unpacked my bag and found the piece hidden in my clothes. Was quite the surprise gifted piece!

I used to like stripper fishing, but finally had to let it go once I grew too old. As nice as the fish may be, I'd still prefer the aforementioned any time.

Although I haven't collected comic books in decades, I would still turn into a goofy 12 year old if someone gifted me any Todd Mcfarlane artwork Amazing Spiderman.... just in case you ever return the favor to your friend. They aren't that expensive and they are incredibly well drawn. The story lines aren't half bad, either.

Kinda nuts, you brought this up. Last night my neibor gave me, a 64 Washington, a 44d Lincoln, 26 merc, and two challenge tokens. Said he found them at a yard sale. 50 cents for em..

McFarlane was the best, imo. Eric Larsen drew a sick Venom, remember?!

I went and looked. NICE! Something I never understood was grading comics. YOU CANT READ THEM!!!

If I had to choose between a complete set of Mcfarlanes... one set circulated rags and the other slabbed, I'm going with the circulated ones.

Comics are tough for me, because as a kid I LOVED them!!! I kept them in immaculate condition, I read them constantly, drew pictures out them, etc, and at 21 years old, lost them all in a fire. So there have been several times in recent years that I've almost pulled the trigger on a few lots, but in the end I just didn't do it.
