Found 1986 p quarter was Wondering if this was mint error. In got we trust, the I looks like it has been whipped away and the r looks filled in. If this is a mint error is this quarter worth anything
Lmk if needing more pictures. Just started collecting coins a few months ago, I found a 1940 half dollar in my pocket change and I have been check all my change since. So any help will be very thankful
I don't know what you are talking about when you say the I is wiped away. It is still there. Your coin is well circulated and has had a long lifetime in circulation giving it all sorts of chances to be abused and used. I think your coin just has PMD.
The I.G.W.T. motto is rather weakly struck, but not so much that it would be worth any kind of premium. This isn't terribly unusual. I'm not sure if this was a grease-filled die or not, in this particular case. It's a slight oddity, but not really an "error", per se. Essentially worth 25 cents, or whatever somebody offered you, if you chose to sell it. Or if you find it interesting, keep it.
Yep. Weak strike. In that latest picture it does look like a partially grease-filled die. Note there's a full rim there, so it certainly isn't just wear. More "oddity" than "error". Or I suppose you could consider it a very minor error. Neat, though. I stand by my earlier statement that it's not really worth a premium, but it is pretty cool.
