Just wondering if this is a legitimate site as my experience with them hasn't been very good. I won an auction on the 24th and paid the invoice the same day and after that - nothing. I sent an email to their support team as to when they'd be shipping, but got no response. I then sent an email to their president, Ian, who responded to say that for new buyers they don't ship until they have received the funds (I paid by PayPal). None of this shipping delay was noted in the documents on the website. He said (on Wed.) that it was in final verification and would ship the next day. On Friday it still wasn't showing as shipped, still no notification from the site, and an email I sent to Ian on Friday has gone unanswered. I'm seriously considering filing a grievance with PayPal in an attempt to get some of my money back, but wanted to check here to see if this is just a fluke. I'm overseas, so shipping will take a while anyway, and now we're into the whole 4th of July holiday thing which will add even more time to this.
They are legit. My transactions with them have been smooth. Everything I've heard about Ian in numismatic circles has been good.
Wow, I've had nothing but positive experiences with GC both as a buyer and a seller. Ian has always been a stand-up guy in my book. Hope all gets resolved.
All positive for me. Have gotten some very nice coins from GC at great prices. And their buyers’ fee is much lower than their competitors.
I have had absolutely great transactions with them. I've sold and bought from them. They ship fast and have wonderful communications. Every time I call someone actually pics up the phone within the first few rings, instead of getting an automated phone tree. I have a feeling that because you are a new buyer and you are out of country, they are just doing their due diligence. When you sent your PayPal funds, was it from a bank source or directly from a credit card or PayPal balance? I only ask, because sometimes PayPal submits payments in the form of E-Checks. Those are treated like any other check. The seller will wait until the funds clear before mailing the coin. Give customer service a call if you can, they should be able to look up how the payment came through. No matter what, don't worry, they will take care of you. I just had my recent winnings show up in my PO Box today.
They are totally legit. I would assume your situation is a fluke and hope it will be be corrected. I would counsel a bit of patience and understanding - even if they have mishandled something I am quite confident they will come through for you.
After only 5 days? After 2 days you were already asking why it had not shipped? Have a little patience. It will all work out.
If you paid by PayPal and Great Collections said your funds were on hold, then it must have been an echeck, which takes up to a week to clear.
Thanks for the responses. I would be much more patient is I actually had some messages from them - like “we are preparing your shipment” or “as a new buyer we need to clear your funds before we ship”. I’ve never had a site that simply sends no messages at all after a sale other than the invoice. Those who are telling me to chill out, consider if you were dealing with a new vendor, had paid them close to $2,000 usd, and you got no messages after paying the invoice. Would you be ok with that? I asked on Friday as their president said it would ship on thursday, but I got no message. I still have no messages from the site - nothing, after over a week. I’ve dealt with many other sites, auction and direct purchase, and I’ve never had a situation like this. Yes, I am out of the US, but as I said I’ve dealt with others before and had no problems.
I agree with most that you should just be patient, but that doesn't mean I disagree with you for being miffed over slow communication. You've perhaps got some right to grumble a little, but try not to let it get you too upset because that is counterproductive, is all I'm saying. They're probably busy. I'm sure it'll work out fine.
Slow communication is unnerving for a fact. But I’m here in the United States, and it’s often early in the next week after the auction that I can expect to receive the coin. In other words, about 7 days.
Call them Monday and if they haven’t gotten it together by then file a grevence. They should outline their shipping terms in full on the contracts and that’s on them if they haven’t put it in writing. People had had problems with them before
Indeed I would, but you are dealing with a reputable business. Relax friend. These folks are on the 'up and up'. Your purchase will arrive...........welcome to the forum.
I'm sorry to the OP that we have not shipped - as many have speculated, we have a very strict internal policy for approving first-time overseas buyers that pay with credit card/PayPal. If we can't approve an invoice to ship, we refund the payment. I had been in contact with the OP myself this week with responses sent to him the next business day or same business day. If you ever need an immediate answer, please call our office at 1-800-442-6467 (+1 949-679-4180). We try to respond to all e-mails same day or next day. - Ian
While we are on this subject, I really don't like the way you display your coins. Can Ya'll give us some better details?? Ya know the coin and not the slab, I use your coins in sold listings all the time, only for reference. I buy in person.
