Darn, gigs up, you are actually correct in that this is a super rare error coin worth at least $10,000. Send it in to PCGS or NGC for grading and attribution as it will make selling much easier.

I have to say, with no disrespect
(because we all have to start someplace)
that I'm surprised that even a new collector
of pocket change/rolls/etc. can't tell at
first glance that the coin is damaged damage.

I tell folks all the time "just because a coin
looks 'different' doesn't mean it's an error coin".

 

Surprises me too that newbies can't understand what damage is .. but the other thread about a damaged plated zincoln is more the norm it seems.

Please provide us all the intricate specifics of the US MINT process for creating Dies, master dies, etc and the entire minting process. Then please identify where during that process a coin like yours could have been manufactured?
