How much is a radar/repeater set worth in CU? I just bought 2 for a co-worker and he has offered to split them with me at actual cost. Is it worth it? He will not see this post. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=270197946033&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=017 THANKS !!!
Well Jack, Here's a big IF in the world of currency. IF THEY ARE WORTH IT TO YOU THEN YOU DID GOOD. I don't mean to sound so harsh buddy but that's what it comes down to. Radars and repeaters are cool and scarce but it really depends on one's tastes. I don't personally go out of my way to buy them (never have actually) but if I FIND one I'll keep it. Here's what bothered me about the auction. "They look to be in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and should grade MS67 to MS68." This guy seems to be selling a lot of currency right now as I did check his other auctions. Would bet the farm he came across these real cheap. Jack, you said CU notes. The seller states BU notes? When was the last time you saw a CU coin? Thinking the guy has no clue and sure as hell shouldn't be saying MS67-68. The scans aren't that good and he's getting into GEM territory there. Centering looks a bit off, can't really see the embossing and who really knows what the corners look like? Damn! but I am harsh aren't I? Sp I figure after shipping it's ten bucks per note. Split them with your co worker. He will be happy and you WILL have two notes for only $20. Nice notes at that but not something I would personally pay for. It's like coins Jack. Whatever trips your trigger but there are a lot more variables. Dan aka clembo
Yeah, I took the description for a grain of salt, and did notice the OC. I have a coworker who is starting to get into paper because his wife works in a gas station and has found a cpl star notes and got the "bug". He does not do ebay, so asked me to win these up to $50 was max. I'll split because I think they are ok and $20 is pretty safe. I'm going to try my hand at paper, but with a more focused approach. Just take the 2003 FRN and try for a set of 12 CU's. I don't know, I have alot of irons in the fire these days. Time will tell.
Hello Jack, The FRN from Kansas City appear (from the pics) CU. Please keep in mind that scanning can and will take away fine inperfections that are difficult to see. The repeaters and radar notes are fun to add to a collection if that is what you are collecting. I personally have never bought anything off ebay and most likely never will. I like to have the notes in hand for a visual inspection with full return rights with the dealer. Since these are rather recent notes and the fact that 294,400,000 were printed there may not be that huge of a premium, but being radar and repeater's, yes, there will be premium added. I have some of these in my collection that fit into the theme of the collection that I found were neat notes to have. As an investment, well time will tell. If you got the lot and split it with your friend and you both are happy, well then you both made out well. Again from the pics they look CU to me, too bad he did not supply enlargements. I think you did fine as long as you did not pay through the nose for the notes. Wish I had more for you....nice notes! Regards, RickieB
I think you made out pretty good. I have been looking for these types of notes with my birth year. Recently I found one radar 19744791 2003a and paid close to $25 for this one. & another 74477447 for $15. Have seen pairs like your going for$25- $40. (one repeater and one radar) Finding two pairs like you did is well worth the $40 you paid, if they are crisp incirculated. I have found out that these go for on ebay 10-30 times face, in cu Hope this helps!!!.
Looks like Claw has a better answer than me. Way to go Claw! Brings us back to the IF it's worth it to you point. Apparently they are worth more to a lot of people. Cool I say. You'll enjoy currency Jack but it really is a crap shoot at times. That's half the fun.
