Maybe someone can help?. I have looked on the internet and cannot find this or similar. Is this valuable?
Sorry, no value. Not an error, just a dime with some glue on it. You can probably remove it with your fingernail.
If it were glue then how did the TY in LIBERTY get on the bottom of the coin? Any who thanks for your opinion.
Two dimes glued together. People do this to try to make it appear as an error. As you can see, it sometimes works!
The glue has the letters TY incused and backwards from the other Dime.. that is evidence of adhesive.
I know it sometimes seems hard to comprehend that it is something so simple. Best to keep in mind the person offering the opinion has spent a lifetime running an established business in coinage. You can be assured he has seen this many times in his career.
I see this time and time again. People are always asking for knowledgeable help on a coin then argue with it when they get it. Makes me less than interested about sharing what I know with a newbie.
You're right. I posted this too quickly. In this case the OP was looking for clarification. This was a bad example of what I'm referring to but I have seen many cases where a newbie is very argumentative, once in awhile even getting insulting, because they don't get the answer they want.
OP, you can see what is meant about the lettering by pressing a quarter in clay, bar of soap, etc. Some times they do the same by squeezing 2 coins together in a vise and selling people who do not suspect that it is not worth more than the face value, Jim
Quite a few people mess with and damage coins: some out of boredom, I suppose, and others with fraud in mind, as Jim pointed out.
