I found this going through some change we collected while on vacation down Cape Cod. Are they worth any value, as I am saving towards a new metal detector.
The key is to make them popular. Lots of things are rare, or have a low supply. In order to make them valuable, they need to be in demand. SO FAR, minor errors and varieties have NOT been in demand. That does seem to be changing, looking forward. Most newbs in coins are downright MAD about minor errors and varieties. You're unlikely to EVER convince us old dudes, but the future of numismatics is up to YOU. And yes, I realize you're 10 years older than I am. I'm talking about newer trends and attitudes. I'm 63, with the neurological profile of an 83 year-old, and the "cantankerosity" of a 113-year-old.
Yes, they will probably never be worth anything over face value. But, they are sure fun to collect. Try putting a cent or nickel set together using only coins with die cracks. You will probably never complete one, but it is fun to try and basically doesn’t cost anything.
