I have this beautiful 1985 D Penny in great condition so much that I'm thinking about sending it off to get graded by PCGS but I would like some advice before I do so.

Very nice but I doubt it would be cost effective to get it graded. You can buy them already slabbed for much less than what it will cost you to get that one graded.

If PCGS graded it at MS-65, which it appears, it would only have a value of $2 by their price guide. It would need to be a MS-67 or MS-68 by their guide to break even with the cost of grading , service fee, shipping both ways. Jim

Have you checked what it cost to send coins to PCGS?

No, not worth grading. Understand why you want to.

Check the price of a graded one and check what it would cost to have it graded.

Nice enough coin that it deserves a Airtite capsule.

... if you're into that kind of stuff. :D I STILL don't own a single Airtite capsule, with the possible exception of one in my miscellaneous holder box. On the other hand, I do own scads of Lighthouse capsules and CoinSafe brand capsules.

    I wouldn't if I were you.

Your coin is worth nothing above face value, even in the lower MS grades. Once you get to about MS-65, the coin is worth $2 (according to PCGS). I doubt your coin will grade anything above MS-65.

Did you know that PCGS grading costs at least $16?

    $16 - $2 = $14

You will lose $14 if you send that coin to PCGS and I doubt anybody will want to buy the coin if you try to sell it.

From a financial standpoint, the coin isn't worth grading but if you like the coin for some particular reason, it's up to you what you do with it.

The "of" is practically gone. Looks AU to me. The question to me is... why would you want to slab a common coin with missing details? Surely you could find a better example in pocket change?
