I bought this from someone yesterday for a dollar, and was wondering how much it's actually worth??? I looked some up, and some sold for 50 dollars. Please help!
If you want information about a coin you should Post in-focus photos so the legends can be read and the condition details can be seen, and Reduce overall picture size without reducing the coin image by cropping out all that unnecessary background garbage that forces a reader to scroll back and forth in order to read your post.
Sorry my friend. Big out-of-focus is still out-of-focus. The obverse is dated Republic Year 28 (1939), and I am not finding any 10 cash listed in the Standard Catalog of World Coins after 1924. A similar depiction of ancient spade coins is mated with a portrait of Chiang Kai Shek on a number of coins dated later and denominated in "fen" ("cents"). The closest thing I have found to a 1939 coin with your obverse/reverse combination are a rare bronze 1/2 fen (Y#348, ~19mm diameter), and a brass 1 fen (Y#353, about the same size); both of which are shown in very dark pictures with too little detail to be sure they match yours.
If, and it's a HUGE if, it's a 1/2 fen, it is so valuable that the catalog can't give a price - there are too few known to use as an information base. If it's a brass fen, it's worth less than a dollar. If it's really an unlisted 10 cash, who knows? The bottom line is that since the original poster hasn't provided any information on Why he originally called it a 10 cash how big it is CLEAR pictures of both sides, and it's metallic content anyone who gives a "value" is just picking it out of thin air.
In that case I confess that my previous comment on value was shot from the hip, and missed the mark pretty badly. In the 2008 Standard Catalog of World Coins it is listed - without a specified mintage - at $13.50 VG, $40 F, $60 VF, $120 XF, $200 Unc. Without an in-focus picture, I can only guess that the subject coin is somewhere between F and AU, +/- a couple of grades. At this German seller's website (search for "shi kwan") an example described as "spotted beautiful" and graded "ss", is currently being offered for €60 (~$86.50). Hopefully one of our German members will wander by and enlighten us about the Sheldon grade approximating a German "ss". Based on the picture visible by clicking on the "1939" link, It's an F-12 IMHO.
Not necessary; the dealer took care of that. See "Erhaltungen/grading/conservation", pretty much at the top of Hardelt's list. So "ss" is about "VF". Christian
You looked the coin up, and the grades are somewhat "hidden" in that price list indeed. Here are two other lists of grades in German and English; the one at Wikipedia is more detailed, the Numispedia list also covers notes. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erhaltungsgrade_von_Münzen http://www.numispedia.de/Erhaltungsgrad#Internationale_Bezeichnungen Christian
I just got better pics if anyone was interested. I am about to sell this on eBay, so this is for sure a 1 fen chinese coin (year 28) 1939???
not a cash coin it is a 2 cents coin in ROC period issued by central gov. of KMT. And it looks like a fake though i m not sure, for its wearing on the margin.
