Probably been discussed before but is the Mint still planning on honoring their current orders for '07 unc ASE's? Last time I checked, the mint website had an expected shipping date of 1/02/08. Reason I am curious is I ordered some as gifts and I am deciding if I should give the ones I currently have and hope they do honor the rest of my order. I would hate to give away the ones I own and then have to replace them at inflated secondary market costs if the mint decides to just cancel all orders. Or, would it be best just to keep them and find another gift. Decisions, decisions!!:smile
that is a good question. I would check the bill authroizing the coins at thomas.gov. if there are any, they usually stipulate inthe bill if the coins must be delivered or shipped by a certain date. or someone who is in the know might be able to provide more info
Find another gift. WHo knows what the mint will do or if/when they will ever ship. If they do eventually ship in January ...BONUS !. I've got 50 on back order myself. I hope they don't cancel but I'm certainly not giving away any that I currently have. They are to rare for that gamble.
My current order has been on backorder since the 1st of Nov. Since then the shipping date has changed 4 times and now stands at 1/2/08. Maybe I will take Andrew's advice and sit on my current supply for now. How rare is the '07 ASE? Rarer than the '06? I didn't realize they would be this hard to get.
Considering I believe they are still selling 2007-W silver eagles as part of the dollar coins set, I don't know why they would not continue to ship them for the individual dollar orders.
this sucks........http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...1&parent_category_rn=10191&top_category=10191
I have been holding 1200 of these since june waiting for a sell-out which happened a short while back, now all of the sudden they are not sold out...........:headbang:
Bummer... I echo your frustration. Makes me crazy when they advertise limited mintage and then production goes wild... definitely makes challenges for speculators.
Yea it does suck. Now that it is evident that my order will definitely not be here for Christmas I think I will just cancel the remainder of my order. At the rate they keep moving the date ahead, the '08 ASE's will be out quicker.
I don't mean any insult or disrespect, but I have no sympathy for you. You are speculating on current year collector coins, which is a real gamble. I was previously unable to get 2 coins for my collection until today because they were "sold out" (hoarded by speculators, it seems), but I just popped in today and ordered 2 and I am quite happy. The W unc. Eagles from last year caught people by surprise in December and that's why they went up in value so much so quickly. I suspect that the 07s won't see the same price increase. You might have a hard time selling those 1200, at least if you are looking for big profits.
Well at least the mint is consistent. They keep raising the shipping date. Now my order shows a shipping date of 1/31/08!!! All this for 2 coins.
JBK, I was not looking for sympathy, I bought these coins in June,I find it hard to believe that I or people like me kept you from getting your (2) coins They were availabe for almost 7 months, maybe you should have taken 5 minutes and placed an order with the mint........... If you didnt get yours, its because of the person you see in the mirror every morning.........no one else! Happy Holidays
Yes, you are right - I should have ordered earlier. However, at the same time, if there were a limit of 5 or 10 coins per person, they would have lasted a lot longer. It is a safe bet that you are not the only person who is speculating on these, so I do believe that the speculators did impact the early "sell out," which thankfully now been recinded. In any case, I am happy that I got my two, I am happy that you got your 1200, and I am even happier for the people who might be able to buy these on the secondary market for less than issue price in a few months.
There was never a mintage limit on these coins. I could have ordered a million of them and they'd still be available for anyone else who wanted one. The Mint was producing these to demand. Anyone who didn't get one of these did so not because of speculators, but because of their own laziness in ordering one during the months that they were available. The only reason they went off sale was because the Mint ran out of the boxes for them. There was never a "sell out".
