I have a 1894 indian head penny that I'm not sure if it has an error from the mint or not. I've included some pictures.

It's either been rolled/"spooned" to mash the edge up like that, or it's mounted in a metal ring. Both are considered damage. I know of no way that could happen at the Mint.

Absolutely spectacular example of a "spooned" coin. Still is a cool find!

This is spooning.. Do it hard for a long time and it will damage the edge!

Was quite the popular elementary school activity back in the days before we knew what a "personal device" was.

After "spooning" the coin, use a sharp tool to cut out the center and you have a ring.

Holy. How bored would one have to be? How long would that take? Thats super cool but I just cant imagine sitting in a room spanking an Indian head for hours with a spoon. Wow, kind of a rap there.
