I splurged a little and got myself this coin for my birthday! Date: 140-110 B.C. Denomination: AR Tetradrachm. Diameter: 31 mm. Weight: 14.61 grams. Obverse: Wreathed head of young Dionysos right. Reverse: ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟΥΣ θΑΣΙΩΝ; Herakles standing facing, holding club, lion's skin draped over arm. Reference: SNG Copenhagen 1040.
Happy birthday Charles and I can not think of a better present than that coin, fantastic. Have a great day.
Beautiful coin, @Charles1997 ! Happy Blessed birthday to you! I really like the heart shapes (Valentine hearts) on Dionysus' head band. It would be interesting to trace the origin of the Valentine heart symbol and it's earliest uses.
Happy Birthday @Charles1997 ! Great self-present! I only have one of those Thasos Tets - it is a bit wrinkled: Thrace Thasos 146-50 BCE AR Tet 33mm 16.5g Dionysos Herakles Club Lion skin Ex: The Golden Horde of @Ancientnoob
One never knows. I bought one at a local coin shop last year for $100, about the same quality, but they only get ancients once a decade or so!
