I know it is a corny title for a book, but it is very much worth reading. The book is divided into 4 main sections: The Ancients, Greek Empire, Republican Rome and Caesar's legacy . Each section has a general overview. After each overview a series of coins is presented. A photo of each coin is followed by a 2 page writeup that describes the historical significance of the coin regarding the important people, places and events connected to the coin. This is followed by the attribution for the coin and this includes any known provenance of the coin. The time frame extends from the first ancient coins until the time of Octavian. Supposedly a second book is on the way that will cover the Roman Empire. This first book is a bit over 300 pages. I have really enjoyed this book. The tone is light yet informative. This book easily gets an 'A' from me. I bought it from Amazon.

When I saw the title of your post I couldn't help but think of this coin. It's the only head on facing portrait coin of which I am currently the custodian. I always think of selfies as head on facing shots.
All I've got is this Honorius from an uncleaned hoard. Honorius was known to spend all of his time on social media while the western empire crumbled around him. Hence, the selfie!
