anyone know anything about these? I opened up a roll of quarters and this one was in the middle about a year ago. I put it up and haven’t looked at it until today. It’s blank on both sides
That is a planchet. Afther the blank is punched from the strip it is rolled under pressure between tow "edge dies" to create the raised rim you see on this piece. At this point it is called a planchet and after annealing to soften it, and cleaning, it is ready to be struck and made into a coin. Somehow your piece missed the coining and got out into circulation. They are interesting and have a modest premium value.
It surprised me, I had never seen one. The edges are round too, it was in the middle of a roll of quarters.
Photo the edge, and post the weight. It could be a blank quarter, which has good value. Or maybe not.
