I hit the monthly Greater Atlanta Coin Show on Sunday and found some fun stuff. 7 coins in all. I don’t normally buy that much at once but the dealer accepted some modern gold I had in trade. PHILIP II 247-249 AD AR Tetradrachm. Seleucis and Pieria. Antioch, struck 248-249 AD. 30mm 12.4g Obverse: AVTOK K M IOVΛI ΦIΛIΠΠOC CEB, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right seen from the behind. Reverse: ΔHMAPX ЄΞ OVCIAC YΠATOΔ, eagle standing left, wings open, with wreath in beak; ANTIOXIA / SC in exergue. Prieur 473 Constantine II as Caesar AE follis. 316-337 AD. Siscia 328-329 18mm 3.34g CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C, laureate head right / PROVIDENTIAE CAESS, campgate with two turrets, star above, dots in arches. Mintmark Epsilon SIS double crescent. RIC VII 216 I’ll add a few more of them here once I get them attributed. Post any recent coin show finds or recent acquisitions of any sort.
I’m a sucker for dark patina in the fields with metal showing in the letters/images. Gordian III AE Sestertius. Rome 243-244 AD. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, laureate draped bust right / SECVRITAS PERPETVA S-C, Securitas standing facing, head left, legs crossed, holding scepter and leaning on column. RIC 336, Cohen 337, Sear 8740
I was excited to find it in the new arrivals box. Too bad I can’t take good photos I’d really like to capture the true look. Thanks DR.
