Around what date? I'm sure there have been various 5 guilder coins over the years.

The 5 guilder 1988-2001 was a nickel coin covered with a bronze coating (bronze clad - nickel).

    Hi luc87,

The 5 guilder (as the whole of the guilder-system) was legal tender until Dec.31, 2001.
On Jan.1, 2002 it was replaced by the euro-system. There were no guilder coins issued in 2002.

To get everything right: 2 of these coins were struck with date 1987.

Strictly speaking, the guilder became part of the euro system on 1 January 1999 and continued to be legal tender until 28 January 2002. Oh, and there was a second 5 G piece in 2000 (the football coin) but that one had the same technical specifications as the regular pieces ...

5 guilder coins were legal tender, not meDals!

The meTal composition of the coins you asked about was nickel and bronze, as posted previously.

I know the modern approach is "Who the %$@#$ cares about correct spelling?", and I guess the schools don't teach it as a subject any more, but I really get upset about confusing such elementary ideas as "medals" and "metals".
