    I'm going to try to post one coin each day about something fun. Feel free to add to the thread with something related.

    This is a clashed die coin. Back in 1857 there was some crazy stuff going on at the US mint. This was the cent die clashed with the 50 cent die.

    Glad it didn't hurt the eagle. Very nice. Are there many die clashes that old. Just can't remember.

    This has strong clashing on both sides but it was so hard to photograph because it is so small.

    Nice clash. Small coins can have some really bold clashing.

    This is the only thing I can offer in relation to 1857. The Charlotte mint only had a few more years of life in her by then as events in the coming years would envelope the nation into some of its darkest times and close the mint as a production facility for good.
