Hey since we had a great thread on the recent ROMA Numismatics wins, I though I would toss out my recent win from AGORA.

POST any of your RECENT AUCTION WINNINGS!

I thought this was a cool little coin. ARCHAIC, ANIMAL, and from Kolchis or the land of the GOLDEN FLEECE!

    Kolchis
    Late Fifth-Fourth Centuries BCE
    BI hemidrachm (11.49 mm, 1.88 g, 10 h).
Obv: Archaic female head right, possibly the Georgian goddess Dali
Rev: Bull's head right within border.
Ref: SNG Copenhagen 98; BMC Black Sea 1014-8.
    Comments: VF. Rare

(Yeah, I know @Bing and some of you all think it is bad luck to show before receiving.)

BUT! POST any of your RECENT AUCTION WINNINGS!

Here's a coin I had my eye on and was happy to win yesterday. It is an imitation of a Roman Republic denarius and I'm not quite sure what to make of it yet so I present it here without any sort of further identification, but once I have it in-hand and have had more time to study it I will discuss it further.

I enjoyed looking through the lots, but nothing really excited me ( for the prices).

Agora is really starting to attract some good consignments!! I was an underbidder on three lots. Didn't win anything.

You're correct. However, I did win one coin, but as of yet I haven't received an invoice.

Unfortunately, I've never participated in any coin auction. Good luck..

I heard from Agora this morning that there was a software error that is leading to invoices being delayed but they expect to have them out sometime tonight. I'll post again if I hear anything else.

Wow, that is an awesome coin, Gandalf!! I love the style, very unusual.

Here's the newest addition to my collection of Sev Alex middle bronzes. Short on flan, but I like the Mars very much:

THAT is a GREAT Mars! Well done!

Thank you. Experiencing the same. Not worried. Always been good with me.

That’s a really cool little silver. Nice score!

I won one lot, a Trajan provincial from the TJ Buggey Collection. Tom Buggey’s old website on coin collecting and the coinage of Trajan was one of the first I stumbled upon when I first started collecting. I got a lot of good information and inspiration out of it and am pleased to have managed to win at least one of his coins (I bid on three).

I’m not superstitious, but I think I’ll wait to post it when it arrives.

Carausius Brother, can you spare a sestertius?

Congratulations @zumbly for scoring a coin from an inspirational source. This is a classic torch passing moment, and perhaps one day a young collector will say the same of an ex Zumbly coin ("His awesome Coin Talk posts motivated me" etc.)! I've shared your sentiments every time I've bought ex Clain-Stefanelli coins. When I was a teenaged collector, my parents gave me The Beauty and Lore of Coins by the Clain-Stefanellis. I loved the book and marvelled at the coins inside. The book is still on my library shelf, and now several of the Clain-Stefanellis' former coins are in my collection. We should try to honor the legacies of our numismatic motivators by generating interest in ancient coins and collecting. No pressure...;)

Oh, back to topic: I got skunked at Agora. I bid too little on a couple of nice RR bronzes. Trying to curb my coin spending a bit. Losing helps. :shy:

    Nice archaic hemidrachm, @Alegandron!

I won this in the Davissons auction. Too new to really be considered an ancient coin (dated 1705, it's the newest coin I own), but I could not resist it, a portrait coin of a female monarch.
    Scotland, Queen Anne.jpg

SCOTLAND. Anne. 1702-1714. AR 5 shillings. 2.26 gm. 20 mm. 1705. Her draped bust left; 5 below; ANNA • DEI • GRATIA around / Crowned thistle; NEMO • ME • IMPVNE • LACESSET • 1705 around. S. 5702. Good Fine; even wear, attractive toning. The last Scottish issue before Union.
