1988 looks to have flared FG on both the inner and on the bottom herez some pics let me know what im missing thanks
For everyone look for this variety . Look at the characteristic of the FG . Here's a image of a regular 88 . Study the area where the black arrows are . Now here's what a 89 reverse looks like . Again, study the area where the white arrows are .
I have a Lincoln penny that is 1988 D that is “shiny silver” in color and is highly magnetic it also appears to be double stamped on the ER in liberty, I think it has the lines in the “G” with the FG designers initials on reverse.. indicating it’s an 89’ reverse coin. It weighs 1.6g and it has what appears to have 2 puncture holes on the reverse. It appears to be a true mint coin but I can’t find anything with its exact description except when researching error coins..just curious what it is
It was by itself in my money jar...I thought it was a dime but when I saw Lincoln on the front I had to do a double take...then I started researching it and couldn’t find anything to match it??
The only difference in size is it’s weight...that I can tell, but I’m no expert...just very curious now that I have discovered it
The initials appear correct for 88. As far as being magnetic, is it possible to be some sort of novelty coin especially with the holes? Magician coin? Check the edge of the coin. Do the holes go completely through the coin?
They do not go all the way through but on the front there is a spot where it may have been close to going through..the edge is smooth like all pennies
Does it feel and sound solid when tapped on? The only reason I ask is that a magicians coin is sometimes hollow and the edge will be smooth with one side sliding over the other. You might try using a needle at a angle to one of the holes to see if it will push in and separate the two halves. The only reason I think it's a novelty coin is that all my steel pennies weigh 2.4 and 2.5 grams so I would have to think it's hollow since it's magnetic and only 1.6 g. JMO
It sounds solid and it doesn’t come apart the edges appear to be one solid piece and I was mistaken on the weight of the coin..
Well then if it's magnetic and the same dimensions and weight as a LMC then I'm stumped here. I would certainly start a new thread with your topic to get some more answers to your question. Start the thread in forums under error coins if you have not done this before.
