It's been an amazingly fruitful week for my Judaean coin collecting efforts! One of my long time and favorite VCoins dealers has purchased some choice Judaean coins from a private collection belonging to a well known Biblical scholar and collector. He was kind enough to allow me a first pick option to purchase some of his newly acquired coins before he puts them up for sale on his site. I purchased 4 Herod the Great coins that have been on my wish list for several years. I'll be sharing images of all of them with my ancient forum friends during the next few days but here is the first. I've come close to purchasing one of these twice before but was too slow with the Complete Purchase button and lost them to other buyers.
Wowzers! That is a crazy sweet coin, Deacon Ray! Can you pm me the dealer’s name so I can check this collection out? I’ve never heard of this guy, I’ll have to look him up. Thanks! Erin
Nice Prutah @Deacon Ray ! Yeah, we know ALLLLL about those Poppies... Since I do NOT have an Herod or any Poppies... The Wizard of Oz - The Magic Spell of Poppies
Thank you, Gerard! It's great to see that you're still collecting and posting. Your Hapsburg coin that you posted a while back is superb!
That was my favorite movie when I was a child even though it scared me witless I've read some interesting history about this coin and how it pays tribute to the economics of the unspoken opiate trade between the ancient Middle Eastern kingdoms (poppy growers) and Rome (modern western world). Amazing how some things never change.
Yep, I'm still around. I fell off the face of the earth for a little bit. That happens because of the medical issues (Schwannomatosis). I always kept up as a lurker. Now that I'm getting back to normal you will see me posting again. I'm a yo-yo that way. For better or worse, you're all stuck with me! Thanks for the kind words about the recent coin purchase.
It's always a great feeling to add 'wish list' coins to one's collection ... especially a lovely Herod the Great like that!
Awesome coin Deacon, you are an inspiration in more ways than one! @GerardV : great to see you back! Best wishes for good health. John
