Spock1k -no mistake, you got good advice. Let me share some experience.
I have over the years bought a common coin example of most grading company's wares...pcgs ,nnc ngc, ani.pci, etc,And awhile ago gec. I found a common date one with good pictures(I've never seen one less than ms-67,by the way.) It was offered on e-bay, I bid with the idea in mind it may make bu-60,it looked possible, got it at a little under that.
Well, as soon as I opened the package and saw the off color luster of au, and of course it has the fine wear marks on all the high points.
I keep it as example of truly bad grading..I don't have any segs or any of other graders that bad, but most others have their ups and downs, but I think they at least try.

AU for sure. I wouldn't spend a dime on a GEC slabbed coin. Thet ALWAYS overgrade. I know. I bought one.

I recently returned a 1921 Peace $ that was harshly cleaned but the pictures didn't show it. I scanned it and when I saw it was cleaned, returned it for a refund. All worked out so far, BUT, depotdel said he was going to put it back on ebay. I haven't seen it listed yet. I hope he at least states that it was cleaned as he said he would.

i think for $16 it would have beena beautiful coin worth buying in a heartbeat. when it went over $20 i felt bad and gave up

Are you speaking of the 1921 Peace Dollar? You can't get even a heavily circulated one anywhere near that low.

spock a '21 Peace dollar even damaged and in F15 is over $50. If someone offers you one for less than that - pass, it's probably a fake.

GD from time to time you get a lot of silver coins at BV and if one is lucky it can even be the 1921 but noted your point about fakes i will be careful :)
