Besides, can you get to the FUN show? I bet you would get far more with your $$$ and the best selection you've ever seen in your life

Well, I've never been to Florida, but if I ever go, I'll make it a point NEVER to darken A-Coin's door.

Paul, you did the right thing. Also, telling all of us about it is definitely the right thing, too. Negative "word of mouth" is very bad for a business. Each person on here knows several people who, in turn, know several other people, etc. Before long, hundreds of people will hear about the bad experience. That does not bode well for A-Coin.

The owner should have fired Chip on the spot, regardless of anything else.

I am truly saddened to hear of your bad experience....but I'm wondering why you went back at all given your prior experiences.

    You hit it there.

When I got "back into" collecting many, many years ago I found a local dealer that I really like. My first BIG purchase was $30 for a bust half. Had to discuss it with my wife as money had been tight for so long.
The dealer treated me with respect and dignity and even held the coin for me. He did NOT know me at this point.

Well, I bought the half and have spent thousands with him since and referred many people to him. The last time I saw him I showed him a coin that I had spent $650 on and NOT from him. What did he say? It's so nice to see that you have come so far AND he liked the coin by the way.

Wow, an honest dealer that realizes I won't buy all of my coins from him yet still respects me. He will be in business until he retires because I'm not the only one that sees this in him.

If a store owner treats me bad, I would never go there again. Forget about them.

There must be coin shows nearby. Find some good internet coin dealers.

Try to get a credit card. This will make purchases on the internet easier and get you some protection. Remember to always have enough money to pay the card in full each month. The interest will double the coins price in a few months.

I've also been treated badly in a couple of coin shops, and nobody is going to mistake me for a kid. So far, I haven't been able to figure out if selling coins turns people into bad businessmen, or if bad businessmen are just attracted to selling coins. Either way, I've had some of my worst retail experiences in coin shops, and now I do most of my buying from a select few internet dealers.

I have school, too. My dad is letting me skip (it's the only day I normally miss at school every year, welll except for today, i skipped today, it was the last day of school before winter break)

I actually don't have a choice to go on Friday ot not. My dad says I'M GOING (he says if you want good deals you have to go on the first day)

Pocketchange...You are dead wrong.. People that work in retail should give everyone the same respect no matter how much money they have to spend.

    Whoops....

    I made a mistake earlier.
I said to "get a permit to petition outside of his store".
I meant to say "get a permit to PICKET outside of his store".
    Sorry about that.

Oh my goodness, I will try to respond, but I already KNOW it is to no avail - you all have your beliefs.

It's like when my wife comes home and the dishes aren't in the dishwasher - I can spin any tale I want - I'M IN THE DOG HOUSE!

At the end of my original post, I made the point that the person should not have been rude. So, I'm a bit confused.

But, ok, I'll be perfectly honest, I find it hard to believe that someone was given that welcome in an "empty" store. To complicate matters, he/she says that the store manager (or whatever) was watching.

And PLEASE can we forget about the $1100 the OP said he had. The store does not know that. So don't blame the store for that. And in fact, this isn't even an issue if we're talking about YN's.

If this REALLY, REALLY happened then WHY are we discussing this on CT? This seems like a problem between the OP and the store. So Should all of us get involved?

Personally, I feel very uncomfortable about CT responding to one person's experience with any coin dealer.

I think we would all have stories and we would never get around to talking about coins :)

Paul, I am sorry to hear about your experience. This Chip might be going through something, but IMHO, that is still no reason to treat someone like he did. It just plain out and simple isn't right IMO. I have had instances like this with one of my dealers, I went there once, and he was talking to a young lady about State quarters and all, and I think she was going to buy some. So, I stand there and wait my turn, he goes to go get something, and I guess she had a short attention span or something and left. I bent down to tie my shoe, and he comes out and asks may I help you? I think finally, and I say "Yeah...", he cuts me off there and says "Hey, where did that lady go?" I said I didn't know, so he just shrugged it off and went and sat down! That got me a little upset, being as I am a yn also. It seems a lot of these dealers don't care about the younger folks, they like the "bigger tickets". But, there will always be some bad in with the good. You just got to take them for face value I guess (no pun intended :D) Okay, I'm sorry about that, I'm done rambling now. :D

The store was empty, and the owner was outside and walked in on me and Chip talking to each other. The owner just stood their and watched. I will concede that they didn't know how much money I had on me. But they knew that I had plenty of money from the godless dollars...

Coin Shops can be a crapshoot.

One place I dislike WAY overcharges, that in itself isn't bad. But they have a buzzer door. You knock and they buzz you in with a button inside to unlock the door. Not exactly the best of feelings. The service is good however...

The place I like simply lets me look thru whatever I like, no pressure, no questions asked. I just bring what I want to the register when I am done. GREAT prices too. the Selection isn't always the best though.

There are a few other places, some with cheap prices, others with good service. Others with other nice benefits. Mostly though I avoid the coin shops unless I -really- need something for a set. My coin store is a Bank. I love roll searching.

You have to weigh the pluses and minuses sometimes, other times you find exactly what you want. It's a mixed bag.

I will give you a tip. For YNs, There are TWO factors in how you are perceived. One is your age, the other is how your dressed. Try something, dress in your sunday best and/or nice business clothes and go coin shopping. The diference in how much better your treated is amazing. It's not how much money you have, it's how much money you LOOK live you have.

once a year there is a thing on main street here and a bunch of people sell different things. well there were 2 coin dealers right across from each other. i'm walking down the road and go to the dealer to the right becuase the left one had a customer. i walk to the tent and the guy totally ignores me while i'm looking at his cases. then another guy came and looked at some stuff and bought a bunch. i asked him if i could go through his buffalo nickels becuase i needed them for my set. he says " i dont sell to kids becuase you are going to buy them and end up spending them later on " i said fine and walked to the other dealer. i ask him to look at his buffalo nickels and he was glad to see a young person collecting. i talked to him for a long time about collecting. i had about $50 worth of coins and he was ringing them up. i turn to my side a little so the guy that said i was going to spend them could see me pull out a $50 bill out of my pocket. you should have seen the look on his face! :kewl:i handed the $50 to the deler, got my change and walked past the other dealer. i could tell he was disapointed but he should have treated me like that.
