Super excited to pick up this one today - 1666 Charles II Crown from the year of the Great Fire of London. This date is scarcer than many others, and this year is always hotly contested at auction, so it has taken me a long time to get one. :woot: 1666 Cr 2.JPG 1666 Cr 1.JPG

Attended the TNA show this morning in Arlington TX. Spent the first 2 1/2 hours helping work the registration desk. No pay, but fun meeting a lot of nice people.
I only had a short amount of time to visit the table due to prior commitments.
I did find one item that I had not seen before. A 10 Kreuzer from Austria. I was puzzled at first since Austria was using the Euro in 2002. This is actually a medal not a coin. But at 1 ounce Silver it fits nicely in my bullion collection. I think the dealer had it mismarked because he didn't seem to want to come off the price more than a couple of dollars. I paid him a dollar more than he asked because I sensed it was worth more. When I got home and researched it, I discovered I came out very good on the purchase. I don't usually dip coins, but I am thinking this one might be a candidate for a quick dip. What do you think? These are high dollar in high MS grades and I got it cheap.

I love it!! Personally, I don't dip coins ever. Others do, and that's fine. I'm sure I've purchased dipped coins, and that's fine too. I wouldn't want to mess anything up, and with no experience dipping, that's most likely what would happen. I do use acetone soaks and hot water rinses though, that I learned here on CoinTalk.

I agree. I have only done a few. All were uncirculated and only one was not a proof. All had only a distracting spot of edge toning. The rim and edge toning looks like it spent some time in a paper envelope. I might just leave it alone.

Does it look better rotated that way? I put the words "Da Ri Ben" (Mandarin pronunciation) in place of honor at the 6 O'clock position. I thought the dragon looked a bit off though...

white obv.jpg I usually orient so the denomination is centered at 6 o'clock. Makes the dragon look right plus that's the way the JNDA does it.

Picked this one up at auction last week. It has a details grade for corrosion. Once I have it in hand I may be able to see it better.
