I'm putting together albums of presidential dollars. When I first started, I bought Dansco albums that hold the P&D mints. I'm filling those up from uncirculated bank rolls. Recently Dansco came out with P&D+proof albums. I plan to fill a few of those also. The presidential proof sets are so cheap that I don't mind breaking up a few of them. However, there is still a choice between: 1. Taking uncirculated coins from the bank rolls. 2. Taking satin-finish uncirculated coins from the uncirculated mint sets and combining them with the proofs. 3. Some of 1. and some of 2. Choice 2 would put the best quality coins in the albums. I'm just wondering what other people are doing.
I just got my unc sets ( P,D & P+D) in the mail and the coins are the nicest examples by far. They are way sharper and cleaner than even the first day covers I've been getting. Is it just me, or are these coin sets superior to all other examples? I'm planning on using these sets ( with the proofs ) to fill some albums
The mint sets from 2005, 2006, 2007 contain satin finish coins. They can be distinguished from coins in rolls, and the satin finish have a lower mintage.
Choice two sounds like the best(coins from mint sets & proof sets). I have a presidential album, but can't get myself to break up the sets to fill the album. Sounds like a song "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do"(By Hammer,Jack). Another thread here states that the mint plans to sell single proofs & 4 -6 coin satin sets. That might be the way to go for filling albums.
The mint recently released the presidential dollars in mint sets (all 8 coins) in the satin finish. That made it a lot easier for me to decide because the set of 8 presidential dollars is only $15.95 as opposed to $22.95 for the entire mint set. I also didn't like the idea of breaking up the mint sets just to get the dollars. I'm OK with breaking up the presidential dollar proof sets because they are relatively inexpensive. So I've bought the new Dansco presidential P,D,S albums (8184 and 8185) and will fill them with satin uncirculated and proof dollars. It should be a very nice looking album if the coins don't tone in an ugly way.
^^So if I read this correctly, the satin coins are in the uncirculated sets and NOT the proof sets?? So, there would be no 'S' mint mark satin coins?? Thanks. David.
you are correct, satin coins are in the unc. sets, and there is no s mint mark on satin coins. Because , mint sets are produced using coins from the denver mint, and the philidelphia mint. monkeyman
does Dansco make albums with 5 slots for each Presidents (2- MS P & D mints) & (2- Satin finish P & D mints) & 1 proof just wondering ??? Snowman
Latest Dansco Presidential dollar album is #8185, Volume Two (P & D with proofs). Interceptshield.com has some nice albums, but does'nt cover the presidential series yet as far as i know. Dansco has a silver guard protection album that keeps the coins in great shape. Dansco also has a presidential airtite album, which will store them in the airtite holder(need to buy airtite holders seperately from album i think). Probably need two albums to handle all 5 coins, one for P&D to put satin in. Another for P&D roll coins + proofs.
Do those albums have the Dansco Silver Guard Protection? Do you plan to use mint rolls or regular strings rolls to fill the albums? Any difference? Mint rolled coins might be more appealing to buyers, but how to prove they came from mint rolls is a problem. First day issue coin covers is another option to save, best left in the covers i assume!
The only difference between the rolls sent to banks and the mint-rolled coins is the price; face value vs. a 50% premium over face. They're both pretty beat up with regard to bag marks. You're exactly right; you couldn't prove they came from the mint anyway. The only way to get uncirc coins that are really better quality is to take them from uncirculated sets.
Which Dansco album will hold presidential dollars in Airtite holders? Apparently, the direct-fit Airtite capsules (A26) have an outside diameter of 30.937 mm which is a tight fit for a half-dollar opening (30.6 mm) in a Dansco page but could probably be made to work.
http://www.air-tites.com/presidential_dollar_supplies.htm The album is a Model A, i think it holds 54 airtite presidential dollars in special A26 capsules that show the incused edge. The album & airtite holders are almost on the bottom of this page link.
OK, I have one of the AirTite albums that hold the Series A direct-fit capsules. The picture in your link is for an album that holds ring-type capsules only 5 to a page. The one I have holds the direct-fit capsules 9 to a page. In my view the direct-fit capsules are better for presidential dollars because they leave the edge visible. (The ring-type capsules hide the edge) Apparently, a Dansco half-dollar album will also hold the series A capsules. I'm going to give it a try.
Thank for the help me. Thank for the help me. Jon Wens _________________________________________________________ liberty reserve
I have tried my Pres. $1 in direct-fit airtites in the dansco half dollar page and they dont fit. My state quaters in airtites do fit. Thought both had the same outside diameter, but the $1 capsule is slightly larger than the 25c. Anyone else with this problem? Jim
