@FitzNigel was passing through Asheville yesterday and was kind enough to stop in for a visit. It is always nice to meet a forum member in person and be able to put a face with a name, especially when they are as nice as Fitz. It is not often you get to have a discussion about how the Normans wound up in Sicily or Anglo-Saxon coins.

Sadly it didn't dawn on me until after he left that I should take a picture for the forum.

Wow, I feel lazy now. I have at least two others here who live within 30 miles of me, and I've never met them in person. Maybe I should remedy that.

The thought occurred to me after I left also! Oh well - I just thought it would be nice to stop in and check out your beautiful shop.

Sounds like a fun time and great conversation. I wish I had a local coin store to visit.

PS- @FitzNigel - I had visions of you being in the UK, for some reason.

I used to live in the UK. Have been back in the states for about eight years now.

Unfortunatly Aethelred’s shop is not close enough for regular visits. And despite the inference of the picture of me posted above, there was a distinct lack of alcohol in the shop (although... new business model @Aethelred?)

His coin shop was formerly some kind of brew pub under the previous tenants. Which is how there came to be chalkboards covering that wall that his display cases are in front of now. Used to be craft beers and such written up there, apparently. Now it's buy prices for American Eagles and Maple Leafs and other bullion.

Actually it is interesting you should ask, it was a craft beer shop before I moved in.

I’m in NC for the summer. I will try my hardest to visit your shop @Aethelred sometime. Maybe visit Biltmore on the way

That's much more the image I had in mind (minus the gigantic doobie).

I'd love to meet you and Biltmore is a "must see" while you are here.

It would be great to meet some other forum members face to face. I'm not sure how many folks are in Northern California, specifically the Bay Area, but who knows? I'm a member of an astronomy forum as well, actually a moderator, and I'm met a few local folks, which is always nice.

Ken Dorney Yea, I'm Cool That Way...

I had regular tables in Santa Clara beginning around 1988. Also had tables at the San Francisco International (and various names, but usually held in Cathedral Hill Hotel) about the same time. While shows are just about dead in California, I am thinking to do one last show for old times sake. And of course to rub elbows with old friends, many of which are now passing away. I remember when David Vagi and I were the youngest in the business (maybe a couple others, but they are no longer active).

Anyway, I may do the September Santa Clara show. I understand that CNG might be trying to resurrect San Francisco. Who knows. Buying coins in person and communicating with one another is very nearly a thing of the past.
