thanks! The cameo is a very nice bonus for sure and the colors are intense in hand with great mirrors. About everything you can ask from an older proof. I was lucky it was a registry set upgrade and I happened to be in the right place at the right time

Pockets aren't very deep (although that's all relative that's why this hobby is great everyone can enjoy it no matter their pocket depth) I just try to only buy one a month at the most these days. Would rather have one nicer coin than 6 lesser ones just my preference

Judging from the coins youve posted...
what I've noticed is you didnt buy the book before the coin. You sure have a knack for picking high quality, high end, top of the grade top of the line, eye appealing investment quality coins. Youve acquired some real winners lately! Buying the highest grade you can afford plus whatever other strategy you use will pay off in the future i believe. What is your secret? Did you learn Morgans and then transfer that knowledge over into other series? I just find it amazing some of the stuff you post. You're like a mini Eric Newman!! Im not joking, i bet you have one helluva nice collection and im just guessing but am i correct in assuming youve only started building your collection in the last 4-5 years??

Thanks! Appreciate all the kind words there.

Yeah my saying is "I know I'm supposed to buy the book first but I don't want to". I did basically learn by Morgans and actually bought that book but got super bored with it and just started winging it. Transitioned into a buy whatever I like type person mostly US type but some dark side sprinkled in. I think I've gotten way better and found my groove the past 6 months or so. Definitely made a lot of bad purchases over the last few years but I just chalk it up to a lesson and take a little loss and move on to the next one. When I lose money on a coin (often) I just tell myself I rented it for a bit.

No secrets other than I basically pass on 1,000 coins before buying one which I didn't used to do at all and even then still screw up all the time. I know how picky I've gotten when I get an ebay promotion and it takes like 12 hours of scanning to find something. The smallest potentially distracting mark on an otherwise awesome coin and I'm already onto the next one. That's easier to do when I'm just trying to pickup one per month.

I'm also not afraid to pay up for one that stands out to me. That Cap & Rays from a few days ago I paid like $400 more than the highest guess here and am still happy with it. I searched forever for an example of that Type and it was the first one to grab me so I paid a premium

Picky is the best way to be, especially when youre dropping hard earned money on an example you plan to keep for decades.
That formula seems to be working. Dont get too discouraged if you lose $ or make a mistake. It happens to the best of the best once in a while, dealers and collectors alike.
About the IHC proof, ive been looking at pf63/64/65 and i still havent found THE ONE.
Those damn spots or ugly haze has kept me from acquiring one thus far

I agree with being picky. I am incredibly picky. I look at so many coins within my budget constraints and I pull the trigger on very few. I sometimes feel like a "tire kicker" at some of the shops I frequent because the coin has to be all there. So many times I've come across a coin and say wow I like it, but.... Never buy those "but" coins, they will come back to bite you in the butt. :)

I would agree, I don't think you quite paid MS-64 money on a raw coin. I'll go $225.00 and you jumped on it.
