20180529_145404.jpg 20180529_145222.jpg Hi there. I am new to the forum and coin collecting in general so bear with me ;)

So, I was given a few old German coins that I have very little knowledge about. Found out about the other ones with normal digging around but this one I have no idea about. And even if this is a coin or something else entirely since there are rings (for a chain?) Soldered on it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thank you

KM#5 cleaned and mounted. Pretty common for German coins of this era.

Okay! Cool gifts! No guarantees but this is what I think.

The pictured 1607 coin is a Duchy of Saxe-Old-Gotha (Sachsen-Alt-Gotha) silver coin, ruled, at the time, by Johann Casimir (IOHA CAS) and (ET) Johann Ernst II (JOHA ERNST) (the two dudes on the obverse looking at each other). The C and O on the reverse by the date stands for the city where it was minted, Coburg. It is cataloged as KM #5, as well as Dav. 7426. My 2011 Standard Catalog of German Coins (3rd Edition) does not give a number minted but suggests VG $70, F $160, VF $280 and XF $500. What with the wear, the apparent cleaning, and the soldered ring, I (me - just me) would not pay more than . . . ahhhh . . . say $30.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction.

Thank you all for your help, especially DEA. Having a little bit of history to connect to it makes it worth while for me. Did not have high hopes regarding value anyway since it had obviously been cleaned and messed with.

Might post the other ones too but they are ww2 and post war coins from Germany. Just having those pieces of metal in front of you somehow makes your mind travel back in time and wonder.
