I have no skin in this game and I've read the CU thread, this thread and one other thread that was posted about this member. On the CU one it looks like he "sold" $2900 worth of coins and bullion and took 10 months to pay the two of them back. Lots of excuses about being in Africa and bad wifi.... If I was a buyer and the seller didn't deliver within a week or two, and wanted me to wait nearly a year for a 8 payment installment I'd be screaming from my soap box all I could.....

Did they get "scammed"? I guess that is up to personal opinion. If someone breaks into your home and steals everything but the insurance company gives you a check to replace what was stolen, were you ever robbed?

Robbery is a crime against a person, not an inanimate object. So, yes you were. Furthermore, the law — at least in the states I’ve lived in — says the crime is committed against “the peace and dignity” of the state.

I just renewed my homeowners insurance. Anyone ever noticed how that charge goes up every year? So, the short answer may be we all got robbed — and not by the insurance company.

Many people pay for flood insurance, even if there hasn't been a flood in their locality in a few centuries. The ones that could help such as relatively common incidents ( earthquakes here) cost hugely but covers only about 25% of the total value. I know no one that has it here. Well 13 years since the 6.9-7.2 one, knock on a wooden dollar.

Here in southern Louisiana, my wind coverage (hurricanes and tropical storms) is five times more than the everyday portion of the coverage. And it comes with a hefty deductible.

I suggest that since the management of this site has now publicly acknowledged potential liability which might justify "legal process" (e.g. "discovery" justification), if remedial actions for the problems aren't to be implemented, the original justification should be valid with the constructive warnings already implemented by Doug.

It can easily be shown that suggested changes wont remedy children generating contracts, criminals continuing their efforts after a nebulous number of meaningless posts, inability to receive/transmit feedback, etc..

Dougs "warnings" are valuable, as would be a requirement that posts are "linked" to a site having CT similar requirements (e.g. Craigslist, eBid, etc.), possibly allowing requested conditions. A significant portion of the offerings already are "linked" to "recommended" sites with stated security.

As I've posted in the past... yet another reason I will not sell on eBay.

Doug's warning is really just an anger response, IMO. Calling us "damn fools" in his warning is overkill. He could say it in a more mature way, but I suppose he thinks he's done a fine job making his point.

Stuff like this has nothing to do with selling on Ebay. I've sold on Ebay, had thousands of transactions with no real issues. Could I encounter an issue sure, but I still leave the house every day even though I could get in an accident.

I believe Dougs warning "WARNING - IF YOU BUY HERE YOU MAY GET RIPPED OFF !" is valuable/appropriate. You may have misunderstood his intent to communicate that often? we are our own worst enemies, disregarding caution when formulating some decisions. I will concede that occasionally he may be overly verbally assertive, using absolute inaccurate terms, as the majority may do also.

I've already stated that I'm glad Doug did something about it. But overall the way he did it was so reactive it loses its effectiveness.

Doug's warning is all fine and well but I don't think it accomplishes all that much in that it's something that anyone with a brain should have known already. It's better than nothing but just slightly.

I understand CTs stance 100% for the record. Even though I think they could safely do a little more in a situation like with this guy I still get why they avoid it altogether.

I should probably just let this thread die and fade into the distance like all threads eventually do, but for some reason I feel the, I dunno, need, desire - to add one more thing.

For years, many years even, I have used this little animated gif as a joke, and posted it when I thought it appropriate to the situation at hand.

    sherrif.gif

I thought about that image this morning as I was reading the new posts in this thread because, in a way, it reminded of something. Another image that I think everybody is familiar with - a frontier sheriff standing in front of the door to his jail with a lynch mob facing him.

Everybody's seen those scenes, but how often have you thought about what was actually going on ? The mob is always comprised of what are ordinarily highly respected citizens, led by a few with the loudest voices and all demanding justice - or at least what they think is justice at that moment. But also in the mob there's always some with looks of doubt on their faces, maybe even thinking the sheriff is right and we all just need to go home. And the sheriff - what's he thinkin ? Probably something along the lines of how did these people, people I've known and respected for years, get to this point ?

Anyway, I think you all know what I'm talking about. Scenes of lynch mobs really happened, in real life. Little has changed. In today's world we scenes like this on the news on almost a daily basis, people protesting this or protesting that, often with others across from them taking the opposite side - each one demanding justice. And usually there's a bunch of cops around. Are any of those scenes really so different from the lynch mobs ?

Everybody, and I do mean everybody, has different ideas of what is right and what is wrong. And what should be done or what should not be done - about anything, about everything ! Start a thread about ethics and it'll go on for 20 pages with everybody voicing their opinions - and a great many of them will be different, or opposing. And each one claiming that they are right and the other guy is wrong. In pretty much all walks of life that's what happens. And it doesn't matter what the subject is, what you're talking about - it's always the same results - there are going to be different sides, maybe 2 or 3 or 4 sides. The same thing happens at your work, at the places you go for enjoyment, the same thing happens around your dinner tables at home.

Now I don't think there's a single one of you who will, who can, deny what I'm saying. All I'm doing is describing life. What life is and what life has always been, and no doubt always will be. And why ? Because everybody has different opinions about what is right and what is wrong. And it aint ever gonna change folks.

I’ve just bought a coin which was offered in the B/S/T section from another CT member. Are there risks? Certainly.

That’s why I think you should do your homework before making a purchase... e.g. you can ask other members (those you trust) if they’ve ever bought or sold a coin from the CT member you don’t know yet. You can ask if the seller has an online shop; many do have an eBay store but want to avoid the fees. And you can also use a payment method which offers security/protection for buyers.

Hm. If I had an 1884-O toner, I'd be very inclined to post it for sale right now, with that exact same title, and the following text:

"This toner isn't as spectacular as the one listed in <link to planman's latest bait>, but if you're interested in that one, READ THIS THREAD FIRST <link back to here>."

In fact, I wonder if I can scrounge up an 1884-O cull and a highlighter...
