Hi I have a couple mercury dimes 1 is a 1945 s. Question is the 5 on the date is different than a regular 5 the bottom of it goes back more than the normal 5 and go's downward kinda like a tail of some kind is this some king of mint error does it make it rare or valuable I have Google 45 dimes and out of the hundreds of pics they all have a normal number 5 here is a pic to help thanks
Could be a small Die Chip or damage. Your picture is blurry so it makes it hard to give a positive reponse.
No, but keep trying. These errors could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars according to the experts and there are new ones being discovered, every day, and fortunes made!!!
CCb, It is difficult to see what the possible answer could be with the photo so indistinct. It it 99% of the time damage due to the softness of copper, silver, and gold in coins. The other .999% of the time wear of circulation and maybe .001% of the time something valuable. Forgive the members that seem "out of sorts" as my mother used to say, it is just with social media and scammers on Youtube promoting such as very valuable, has caused a large number of questions the videos say are riches in disguise. Do you mean they've been lying to me all this time? How would you know, you're no expert? Quit misleading him, he's just starting out. Just wait until he gets "doubled die" in his vocabulary, he's not there, as yet, you want to see errors every single day.
Somebody ought to take those YouTube video makers and Internet clickbait writers outside for a good old-fashioned thrashing.
Larry, why don't you post them in your own thread instead of here. They have nothing to do with this discussion.
