Well... I just want to make it clear to any other readers who aren't familiar with that grease that it isn't made to be used as a coin cleaner.
    x
It also doesn't make any financial sense to spend money to clean cents which are only worth face value (1 cent) if you try to sell them to a dealer.
The third issue I see is... if a year from today you open your roll that you say grades 6.82, will you still grade it 6.82? And what exactly is the difference between 6.82 and 6.51?
    x
If you enjoy what you are doing, well then, who am I to tell you not to do it?
    x
But, I read your posts and I have absolutely no idea why you are doing the things that you say you are doing. Let me sum it up:
    x
You are searching rolls and pulling out circulated Lincoln cents. Circulated Lincoln Memorial cents have no collector premium value to the average coin dealer. You are putting your circulated Lincoln cents in expensive coin flips that you paid more than 10 cents a piece for. For good measure, you are buying chemicals to clean your circulated Lincoln cents. The coin flips and chemicals cost you far more than you'll ever get by selling your collection back to the average coin dealer. You are using a coin grading system that you made up yourself and you freely admit that you grade your coins differently each time you look at them and your grading system isn't based upon the amount of wear that is found on the highest details of your Lincoln cents.
    x
    Did I misunderstand anything?
    x
I, myself, am searching rolls of Jefferson nickels. I am pulling out all the pre-1974 coins and temporarily hoarding them. I do not clean any of them and am keeping them in plastic bags until I have 40 of them and then I put them back into a roll and labeling the roll with the coin date and mint mark. Some day I might be able to sell my collection of non-silver pre-1960 nickels for a small premium over face and sell the silver war nickels for the melt price. There is no need for me to grade them, but when I do, I use the standard grading system found in the red book.
    x
We both are having fun. I'm not trying to convince myself that if I clean my coins they will be worth more than before I cleaned them. And, I didn't spend a whole lot of money buying flips to house them.
    x
Back in the 1960s and 70s it was popular to say "more power to ya" if it makes you happy to do something that the average person thinks is strange.

Basically I do it as something to keep me busy.
It saves the bone dry pennies if nothing else.
But a 'wet' penny looks better than a dry one.
And anything that happens with them will almost certainly happen after I'm dead.

That's a dent. It happened after the coin was minted, and adds no value.

Ugg..... 0-16 this week. All stinking skunks. Not surprised June-August always seems to be bad for searching for me.

Nice finds Berto! Way to keep your “beady eyes” pealed for silver. How do you know the marked roll CRHer dumps at his source?

1st let me just say I am impressed with the volume of halves you are able to search. The results you posted previously speak for themselves! But, I have to ask how you manage to dump so many coins every week? Don't the tellers get tired of seeing you bring in that many coins? Maybe I’m paranoid, but I think my tellers/bank managers would put a stop to my dumping that many coins. Just curious......

I never dump at my pick up banks
I am fortunate that my credit union has a no fee coin star for members. All halves go to the coin star. And yes I have filled them up more than once
So I use three separate CU branches now.

Some of us that live in a small town don't have much of a choice! I dump at one of my Credit Union because one of my other banks threaten to shut me down If I dump there, they had to move their coin machine behind the counter due to the fact the general public does not have the common decency to remove all their trash that breaks the machines. I have a deal with this bank if the other banks machines break I can dump there. The Credit Union Managers are Awesome and truly enjoy helping me. They really treat me like family. I surprise them twice a year with goodies and they really like it when their boxes have the most silver its a mini competition with the other banks. Sometimes we don't have a choice. Here in my town, I do not have tellers getting mad or upset, The managers here get far more people dumping coins and breaking their machines, When I come in they know my dumps are free of junk, like bullets, false teeth, screws, bolts, sand, etc. I am very lucky here and I made it a point to treat them very well.

I am happy to state my last 4 boxes for this week was much better, only one skunk! I pulled 7-40%ers, and 11-Clad Proofs, 4-67, and 3-68, only one short for my weekly goal of 10 pieces of silver. I truly didn't think I was going go get that close this week. Proofs, 1-84, 1-90, 1-93, 1-95, 1-97, 2-01, 1-02, 1-05, and 2-06. Happy with me finish to this week. Hope you all score lots of silver, errors, proofs and much more! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend as well! Keep Stacking!

    The head teller told me.

She also said a woman orders 2 boxes ($50) of cents each week and the end of each week she brings back about $40 in cents. The head teller was annoyed by this, which I completely understand.

I have 3 dump banks and 3 pick up banks. I NEVER dump at at my pick ups!
When i first started doing this i was a crazy man lol. I called every bank in my surrounding area and asked if they had boxes of pennies(if you say cents it throws them off). I got mixed reactions. Some of the tellers were offended that i even asked for THEIR money. So the tellers that gave me a hard time became dump banks, the ones that were nice became my pick ups.

I had such a great score at a bank today. I know it's technically not coins, but it's from the same bank from Saturday. A texted called me at work and told me she had some bills I might be interested in. I asked how much, so she sent me a picture and I almost had to leave work early. I actually had my father pick up the bills for me...check this out IMG_8517.JPG IMG_8518.JPG IMG_8519.JPG IMG_8520.JPG The red seal $100 is my first one ever...and to think I almost bought one at a local coin store on Saturday for $155!! The 1934 Boston $100 on the far upper left is about uncirculated, except for some pink teller writing in the upper margin of the reverse...oh well!

20180517_183442.jpg 2018-05-17 18.37.27.jpg I'm going to show pictures of a terribly dry penny.
And then one greased. My phone camera is about useless.
And I thought I had one even drier than this.

I rarely get proofs, and when I do, they're severely compromised. Good job!

it doesn't matter what date that Lincoln memorial cent is, in that condition, because the dealer "buy price" on it is face value. Wet. Dry. Dull. Shiny. Brown. Red. It doesn't matter. 1 cent is all it will ever be worth.
Of course, you might say that it is a 'pre-1983' date and worth more than 1 cent in melt value... and then my answer is... exactly the same as above. It doesn't matter to the melter how it looks.
